The Best Remake Sources

- The Lady From Shanghai (1947) - an amazingly modern crime thriller with all the plot and character twists typical of the best thrillers of today. Like the Manchurian Candidate, very little would (and should) change from the original, and I could stand to see a remake without it spoiling my memory of the original.
- Frankenstein (1931) - always a great story, it could be told really well today by someone like Tim Burton.
- Swiss Family Robinson (1960) - this has every potential of making a great film, and yet a truly great version of the story has never been produced. Yet.
- Escape From New York (1981) - a great science fiction tale that could be sooooo cool if done well today.

The Manchurian Candidate and King Kong are being released soon. Hurray! Above are some more I'd like to see remade.
There are many great films I wouldn't want remade. Who wants to see The Wizard of Oz or North by Northwest remade? What would be the benefit of seeing 12 Angry Men or Wait Until Dark being remade? So, those and hundreds of others aren't on the list. :-)

Actually, the TV remake of 12 Angry Men from (1998 I think) is quite good.
T'ho
:?)
hmmm... I'll have to track that down.
And, I'm not saying it couldn't be good, just that it'd be unecessary (like the Lemmon/Matthou The Front Page).
