Some of these aren't current releases, but I've just recently found out about them and have found good.

bill... if you like Gilberto Gil and you haven't already, check out Milton Nascimento. Also, (again if you haven't already) look for the "Brazil Classics" cd's compiled by David Byrne. (I believe there are two of them but I only have the first, "Beleza Tropical"). They're both a great way to experience some of Brazil's greatest musicians and songs but David also provides the lyrics in both portuguese and english so you can TRY and sing along. :)
The music is beautiful and Brazilian portuguese is a music in itself.
Lastly, EMI International has a Brazilian compilation called, "Hemisphere-Brazil Blue".
All are a great way to experience Brazil's culture through music and song. I'd highly suggest to anyone and all who love music to seek out these cd's as well as contemporary Brazilian music on a whole.

thanks for the suggestions, kevbro. I got the gilberto gil CD from a friend, who also gave me copies of some Os Mutantes, Cactano Veloso(sp?), and a Tropicalia compilation. They're all great, but there are a few tracks on that Gil CD that just blew me away.

I'll try and check out some of those others.

bill...
I don't know of "Los (?) Mutantes" but i'll hunt 'em down. Caetano Veloso is on the "Beleza Tropical" several times.
I also have a Stan Getz & Joao Gilberto (featuring Antonio Carlos Jobim) put out by Verve that I really enjoy. (Who doesn't like the catchy, "The Girl From Ipanema?") :)
It was originally recorded March 18-19, 1963 and is digitally re-mastered. Sweet!
