- - "Maggot Brain"/"Maggot Brain" by Funkadelic, solo by Eddie Hazel: Ten minutes of the most whacked-out, acid-drenched, fuzz-laden wailing not soloed by anyone named Hendrix. Legend has it George Clinton told Eddie Hazel to play "as if your mama just died."
- - "Baby's On Fire"/"Here Come the Warm Jets" by Brian Eno, solo by Robert Fripp: Disciplined and anarchic at the same time. Fripp hurtles this solo at you with some vicious, inspired feedback and distortion.
- - "Meeting of the Spirits"/"The Inner Mounting Flame" by the Mahavishnu Orchestra, solo by John McLaughlin: If you listen closely, you can feel the wires on your speakers melt. McLaughlin's Hendrix-inspired soloing is relentless and awe-inspiring.
- - "Girlfriend"/"Girlfriend" by Matthew Sweet, solo by Robert Quine: Another fuzzy solo, quick but stinging, which adds the right flavor to an already-great song.
- - "Like a Hurricane"/"Decade" by Neil Young, solo by Neil Young: Like any of Young's solos, it's ragged and disjointed, but it's just so damned beautiful.

List compiled in no particular order. In fact, these aren't even "the best", just the ones I think are all worth listening to.

Great choice on the Funkadelic selection. Also nice insight on the Clinton legend. Always wondered where that playing came from....
