Best fiction book series

  • The humorous, satirical Discworld series by Terry Pratchett is #1 on my list, with the following books the most recommended:
  • Mort
  • Wyrd Sisters
  • Guards! Guards!
  • Moving Pictures
  • Reaper Man
  • Small Gods
  • Lords and Ladies
  • Men at Arms
  • Soul Music (the best one of an excellent series)
  • Interesting Times
  • Hogfather
  • Jingo
  • The Last Continent (close match for best one!)
  • The Fifth Elephant
  • The Truth
  • The other fiction series I'd recommend are Douglas Adams' 5-book Hitchhiker trilogy, and the first four books of Anne Rice's vampire series, up to and including Tale of the Body Thief. The series goes to hell in a handbasket after that, except for "The Vampire Armand" and "Vittorio".
Author Comments:

Terry Pratchett's books are on the surface a send-up of the fantasy genre, but they brilliantly satirize non-fantasy things such as television/movies, institutionalized religion, and government, among other things. The books can be read out of serial order, by and large. There are about 26 books in the series now.
If you enjoy getting involved in series of books that make the characters and their world seem real, you'll love the Discworld series.

I'm sure the readers of Listology need no introduction to the Hitchhiker series, lol, so I'll pass it over.
Anne Rice's books are lush,... they are frankly intoxicating. They are not goth... the undertone is one of profound sensuality, not at all an obsession with death.
I discovered these books in about 92, and for a long time afterward I had dreams of beautiful people with alabaster skin and incandescent eyes.

acctually tperry is over 30 now. And have been for along while.
