Author Comments:
I'm a big beer fan, so one of those tear-off calendars with 365 different beers on it seemed like a good idea. Instead, it'll probably be my ruination, as I am now compelled to try every beer they mention. I've had some of 'em already, but I've still got a long way to go. Who knows which beers the '05 calendar will bring...
(12/26/04: Tried Baladin Nora and Hamovnicheskoye. Nora is a delightful, rich, slightly sweet ale that I wish wasn't so damn expensive; not sure I taste the myrrh that's used in its crafting, but then I'm not sure I know what myrrh even tastes like. Hamovnicheskoye is sour, undrinkable junk. I pitched it after three minutes and opted for Busch Light instead.)

The Weyerbachers suck. Of course, if you ask me in person I'll just nod and shrug my shoulders. But trust me, they suck. Stoudt's is blah too.
I just realized what you were saying when you mentioned "liquor exchange." (Rotten brain cells!) Ironically, my friends and I dropped that this year in favor of a simple "beer exchange." I recommend the one called "Hitachino Nest Weizen." It's from Japan. It has an owl on it. And after drinking just one (it's a lot, trust me), you won't be able to pay attention to the hockey game you paid $45 to see (long story).
I've had a couple other Weyerbacher beers, and I dunno -- I thought they weren't bad. I mean they aren't on the level of something like Victory or Stone, but neither are they Buzzard Bay. Stoudt's I've never been terribly excited about (when was the last time you heard of a good triple abbey made in America?), but I'll try it anyway one of these days.
And the funny thing is, on my last cash-depleting beer run a couple weeks ago, I picked up a couple of the Hitachinos. The Nest Weizen may have been among them, since I'm a big weisse beer fan.
And a beer exchange... that's even better than a liquor exchange! Damn you and your good ideas!
