Beautiful songs you might have not heard yet

  1. "Hallelujah" by John Cale...this song has been recorded many times (originally by Leonard Cohen) but I like John Cale's the best. His voice is pure and melancholy, guaranteed to tug at the heartstrings.
  2. "Time" by Tom Waits...Waits' voice tells you that he's carried the weight of the world on his shoulders. He sounds weary, which makes you want to listen to his message. Tori Amos sang this song on television post 9/11 and gave it a new meaning to America.
  3. "The Blower's Daughter" by Damien Rice...I first heard this song during the last scene of the movie "Closer." I like the song better on its own - rumored to be about Rice's unrequited love for his clarient instructor's daughter.
  4. "The Good Witch Of The North" by Everclear...this was never a radio single for Everclear, but my favorite of their songs. I like it because it is very relevant to real relationships.
  5. "Konstantine" by Something Corporate...a LONG song, only available on the import version of "Songs For Silent Movies." What a beautiful tribute to a past love, you feel every emotion right along with him.
  6. "Kissing You" by Des'ree...this song is from "Romeo and Juliet." Des'ree's voice is perfection, starts out as a simple song against a piano and builds to a full orchestra by the middle, and finishes simple again.
  7. "I Do" by Jude...a sad song that tells the story of a lost love getting married.
  8. "Belief" by Gavin DeGraw...this is much different than Gavin's songs you may have heard on the radio. Full of emotion and passion.
  9. "Lovesong" by Tori Amos (covering The Cure)...I am a fan of The Cure, but Tori's piano version of this song is gorgeous.
  10. "Fly Away" by Joe Firstman...Joe's voice sounds an awful lot like Adam Duritz of Counting Crows, but the sound of this song is very unique.
  11. "The Shining" by Badly Drawn Boy...to me, Badly Drawn Boy can do no wrong, but this song is BDB at his very best!
  12. "A Lack of Color" by Death Cab For Cutie...hard to pick just one great song from "Transatlanticism," but this one haunts me more than the others.
  13. "The Luckiest" by Ben Folds...Ben Folds can do zany and witty, but this song is beautiful. The end lyrics are a little strange, but sometimes love leaves you tonguetied.
  14. "Disco" by Howie Day...from Howie's first CD "Australia," this is not what I was expecting a song called "Disco" to sound like. The highlight is the way his voice strains as he sings 'so beautiful...'
  15. "Fade Into You" by Mazzy Star...Hope Sandoval has a luxurious voice and this song is beautiful and sexy.
  16. "Do You Realize??" by The Flaming Lips...you may have heard this, as VH1 used this for a promo commercial last year. Flaming Lips manage to make an electronic song also beautiful.
  17. "Mad World" by Gary Jules...Tears for Fears did this one originally, but Gary's is sad and melodic. From the movie "Donnie Darko."
  18. "Such Great Heights" by Iron and Wine...from the "Garden State" soundtrack, this song was originally done by The Postal Service. PS's version is fantastic for an upbeat mood, this one is perfect for a quiet mood.
  19. "Holding Out" by Rockwell Church...I love the idea of not settling, so this song suits me perfectly.
  20. "Hear You Me" by Jimmy Eat World...so many rumors about what this song is about. One I heard was about two fans of Weezer who were killed in a car accident. It has relevance to anyone who has lost a loved one.
  21. "The Way You Love Me" by Keepsake (covering Faith Hill)...I wasn't expecting to like this at all, but Keepsake creates a slowed-down and more heartfelt version of Hill's country hit.
  22. "Angel" by Matt Nathanson...a short short song from "Beneath These Fireworks." Matt packs a lot of emotion into a minute and a half.
  23. "You Are My Joy" by The Reindeer Section...the first song I heard by TRS, it reminds me of being in Central Park in the fall with me and my boyfriend wearing sweaters hugging each other tight as the world spins by. Don't ask me why.
  24. "Angel Dream" by Tom Petty...from the "She's The One" soundtrack. I like Petty best when its just him, a guitar, and his heart.
  25. "Breathe Me" by Sia...this is from the Six Feet Under soundtrack. I don't watch the show so I don't know how it fits in, but the song is a must-listen!
  26. "Winter" by Joshua Radin is beautiful! Thanks to "masonsmother" for bringing it to my attention!
  27. "Swing Life Away" by Rise Against is on modern rock radio right now. It's not quite "beautiful" per se, but very pleasant.
