I could start out with a "swoosh, right over your head" but that would be cruel. So I guess I better explain this whole Barney Fife thing. I thought you were comparing all your lists that start as FIFE003, FIFE005 and so forth with the humor in having a made-up band named "FIFE" (your words).
Anybody that's seen Don Knotts in action (on the Griffith show or in movies like "The Shakiest Gun In The West" knows that shaking nervousness is part of his comedic style. Hense my better suggestion (in my opine) of a band named "The Shakey Fifes".
Actually, I once heard of a band in the '80's that went by that name, (Detroit). My comment about Barney the dinosaur was made because I thought you were in on the joke. Sorry for making that assumption.
Feel free to be as cruel as you want. If you had some brilliant observation I might actually be hurt by this going over my head but since you didn't I don't.
My lists that begin with FIFE are for my feature films lists FIlms, FEature, as opposed to FISH, FIlms, SHort, so there's no connection there.
If you think the name The Shakey Fifes is a better band name then you could probably put it on your own Made-Up Band Name list but I think prefer mine for it's subtlety.
And the fact that you've heard another band use the name before doesn't diminish the fact that I hadn't heard the name before and hence to me the idea is original.
Touchy, touchy, touchy. I'm sorry, it's just that most people I know have a sense of humor. I never meant to make fun at your not understanding "Shakey Fifes". The only reason MY humor kicked in on your suggestion of "Fifes" was I immediately thought of a band of heavy metal Flute players.
As for your suggestion of adding my own version of your list... my lists always include more than "ONE" item. You keep working at keeping your name at the top of the "Hall of Fame" list and I'll make a point of staying off your high ground.
My apologies to the other members if I've crossed the line in this post.
I try not to referee, and it's to everyone's credit that I almost never have to. I'm sure you guys can work this out, as I suspect the vagaries of text-only communication have made everybody sound harsher than they intended.
As for the hall of fame, one of these days I will update it to be qualitative rather than quantitative. But until then, single-item lists really don't do much to pad your score, since it's really just a character count. You'd need 10 single-items lists to count as much as a single 10-item list. I know that was a personal dig rather than a comment on how Listology computes scores, but I just can't help myself when it comes to talking about the technical underpinnings. :-)
You're right Jim, the reference to the hall of fame list was just a personal dig that I now regret using. I shouldn't have strayed from my original "sense of humor" point and perhaps I was just misreading arrogance in the replys. (I KNEW I shouldn't have posted that "Redneck" list) ; )
It was not my itent to have a go-round with anyone. In addition it has never been my intent with Listology to achieve the pinacle of the Hall of Fame. As far as I'm concerned it could be eliminated tomorrow and would not in any way affect the way that I do things. I create my lists for my own reference and organization.
There have been a few occasions when I sometimes wished I would've disabled the ability of people to post comments on my lists because of the large amount of unrelated comments they seem to garner especially when they are in their infancy but so far I've resisted that temptation and have yet to create a list that can't be commented upon.
I saw Nick's list. I liked the concept of Nick's list. In the past I've had a few possible band names sweep through my mind so I thought while the time was ripe I'd clone Nick's list and start a slow-burning copy of my own. I don't think there's anything wrong with me making a place-holder for future reference whether it has 1 or even zero list items. I'm not the first person to have done this.
I'm am old-school Internet user in that I tend to lurk a little and wait to see how things are going to play out before I start pitching in my 2 cents. Obviously with the popularity of the Internet there are many different personality types in play, hence the recent, what I would call, abuse of the Listology front page by neophyte members. I'd never have thought of posting to the front page of Listology 'til I'd been around for at least 6 months. If I recall correctly, and Jim might or might not be able to validate this, I was a member of Listology for well over a year before I finally started using it on a heavy basis.
All I can say is that for the most part I tend to create lists that are based on my own creativity or lack thereof with the exception of the occasionalinteresting list for archival or reference purposes. The fact that someone would think I created my one item list (and by that reasoning all of my other lists) for "fame" is a little bit disingenuous coming from a person whose longest list is probably not of their own creation.
That being said jukejoint I hope you continue to make valuable contributions to the Listology community as I feel you are a valuable member. Even though there is no "sincere" tag in cyberspace and I can't flag this as such I do mean that with all sincerity.
"Shakey Fifes"?
Sorry, don't know what that means.
Oh, you must have meant Barney the Purple Dinosaur.
OK, I'll stop now.
No, as in Barney Fife from the Mayberry Police Department.

Please, no more responses on this topic.
