Bad Movies I LOVE!

- THE PIRATE MOVIE(this laughably bad comedy remake of "The Pirates of Penzance" features Christy Mcnichol in a role obviously intended for a post-Xanadu Olivia Newton-John. It also shares with "Xanadu" the mark of a truly juicy bad movie - a musical scene where live action and animation are interspersed. A must-see in the bad movie pantheon.)
- XANADU (Olivia Newton-John plays a roller-skating Greek muse. Need I say more?)
- PHANTASM (technically this is a bad movie. Actually it is one of the coolest horror movies ever made. The first two sequels also get on the list.)
- JAWS 2-4 (Yes, I love the other "Jaws" movies. The second one comes the closest to actual merit, and contains almost as much suspense as the first, the third is hilarious, with tons of early 80's looks and one sequence where the shark breaks through glass in slow-motion like an 80's metal video, and the fourth one - well the whole concept is just so wonderfully absurd!)
- SHOWGIRLS (I just saw this the other day, and damn I wish I'd seen it sooner! This movie is just one huge glorious festival of good-badness, from the over-the-top T&A to the character names (Nomi Malone, Crystal Carver) to the fact that the huge ambition of the protagonist is to be a Vegas showgirl. And she takes it so seriously! I can't get enough of this Valley-of-the-Dolls-esque picture!)

Well, I would mention Gene Kelly's dancing, but then, I wouldn't call Xanadu a bad movie to begin with. (Blasphemer! 8^)
