Awards for the Grammy Awards

Tags:
  • Best Performances: Prince w/ Beyonce, The White Stripes, OutKast
  • Worst Performances: Beatles 'tribute', Funk 'tribute' (Bad performances, plus you cannot pay tribute to funk without mentioning James Brown and Sly and the Family Stone along with Mr. Clinton), Aguilera's Beautiful (she can sing, but my, that song is boring...)
  • They Should Blush Award: Whoever caused the numerous technical audio goofs throughout the show
  • Best Award: Outkast's Rap Album and Album of the Year (I would have given them record of the year and handed the Stripes the album award, but still, this is the best album winner in decades), The Neptunes' Non-Classical Producer of the Year, both of The White Stripes' awards (Best Alternative Album and Rock Song), Johnny Cash's Best Video (Hurt), Kylie's Dance Award, Pink's Best Female Rock Vocal Performance, Eminem's Rap Solo Performance
  • Worst Award: Evanescence's Best New Artist (Crap band wins historically crap award)
  • Worst Trend: Sentimental awards (Did you die last year? Have a stroke? Why, here's an award.)
  • Best Trend: If The Academy still can't judge rock music worth a rip, OutKast and Eminem has at least led them to accept rap.

Fun list! I probably wouldn't drop in for just a two-word post, but I also wanted to see if you got a notification e-mail from this post?

:( Nope. I haven't received one since last Wednesday or so.

Out of curiousity, did you catch the awards last night, and if so, what did you think?

Shalom, y'all!

No, sadly I missed the show. A casualty of our TV-as-DVD-monitor-only lifestyle, I'm afraid.

I temporarily set your e-mail address to my address for this post. I'll let you know if I get the notification message.

Interesting. I did get the message. All I did was update your profile to my e-mail address instead of yours, so Listology is definitely sending messages to you. Perhaps Hotmail thinks I'm spamming you, and is filtering those messages out?

Hmmm. In theory, at least (I think), Hotmail should throw filtered messages into my Junk folder, and I haven't had an item in that folder in forever.

I'm stumped! Nothing too new there, then... :)

Shalom, y'all!

L. Bangs

Yeah, I thought Hotmail might be the problem, too, but I have it set up so that everything from this site is on my safe list and goes to the inbox, rather than the junk mail folder. (Although, the few times when someone has emailed me using the little link in my profile, that always goes to the junk mail folder.)
And I don't know if I'm getting emails when someone comments on a list because honestly, I don't remember if anyone has commented since the weirdness started.

PS - I like the list, LBangs, especially the Worst Trends category. That has been getting annoying, hasn't it? Honestly, though, I thought the whole show was rather boring. Even Outkast's performance, which I had high expectations for, was lacking energy, IMHO.

Thanks!

The sentimental trend is threatening to become a cycle. "We skipped you when you deserved the award because we wanted to reward a less-deserving performance from a deceased legend, so now we're rewarding you since you are sick and we are ignoring a more worthy performance so that later we'll have to..."

I mean, if the Academy had noticed Warren's self-titled album, they really wouldn't have to do this back-peddling now.

Besides, the Grammys are a bit short-sighted. Where were the Johnny Cash tributes? He certainly deserved more attention than Luther Vandross. Or why was there only a token reference to Hank Ballard, who sang some of the coolest songs of the 50s?

And I understand the nice thoughts behind the Vandross tune, but it was far from one of the better songs from last year. Sigh.

Did you find the White Stripes' set, which was probably my favorite, boring?

I thought the first OutKast song, which was oddly mixed in with the funk tribute, was lacking, but I did like the final Hey Ya! performance. Those tributes, though, were ill-conceived, poorly played, and tough to survive.

Shalom, y'all!

Actually, I missed the White Stripes somehow. Was it possibly during the first half hour when I was watching The Simpsons?

Ah, there's the rub. It was early in the show, so probably it coincided with Bart and the crew.

It was a thing of beauty.

Shalom, y'all!

Perhaps you two could try signing up for another free e-mail account like Yahoo, switching your Listology e-mail to that new address, and see if you get messages more consistently there? Based on my test above, I'm virtually certain Listology is sending the e-mails correctly.

Alright, I switched emails. I'll let you know if it's still weird, and thanks for trying to fix this, Jim!

Doh! I should have known that!

The Hotmail spam-protection is a possibility. I don't think I have it set up to filter out anything, but perhaps Hotmail defaulted me into something. I will look into this...

Thanks!

Shalom, y'all!

That a good corner!
