- Xscape- This was a girl group unlike most others, in that ALL 4 of them could actually sing. They had really great voices. They released 3 albums, I believe. The later ones were not as popular as the first, and they gradually disappeared. Member Kandi Burress resurfaced as a songwriter and producer of pop hits for the likes of N'Sync and Alicia Keys however. Songs to Listen to: "Is My Living in Vain, "Tonight", "Understanding", "Who Can I Run To"
- Deborah Cox- One of those rare Powerhouse voices when put to good use. She released 3 mildly popular singles, including the ballad "Nobody's Supposed to Be Here" which was remixed as a dance/club hit. Unfortunately this got her stuck with a "dance/pop" label. Haven't heard anything of her since. Songs to Listen to: "Sentimental", "Nobody's Supposed to Be Here" (original version)
- Changing Faces - Another girl group where both members have great voices. Made several R. Kelly-produced hits in the early 90s, then disappeared. I think Arruh got too wrapped up with Aaliyah to pay any attention to GROWN women, ahem.... Yet, they resurfaced a couple of times in the 2000s, most notably with the single "G.H.E.T.T.O.U.T.". Subsequent singles received little airplay, and they have seemingly disappeared. Songs to Listen to: "Foolin Around", "Stroke You Up", "Am I Wasting my Time", "All is Not Gone"
- En Vogue - THE girl group to topple all other girl groups! All 4 members had incredible voices. I'm sure everyone is familiar with En Vogue. They had numerous hits from the late 80s and early 90s. Things got shaky when Dawn left, but the other 3 ladies kept going strong with their EV3 album and the single "Whatever". Subsequent singles didn't do so well though, and they've seemingly disappeared now. Songs to Listen To: "Hold On", "Don't Let Go (Love)", "Free Your Mind", "My Lovin' (Never Gonna Get It)", "Whatever", "Lies"
- Dru Hill - 4 extremely talented guys who've seemingly disappeared. had several hits in the mid and late 90s. Things looked bad for the group as a whole once member Sisqo went solo and made "the Thong Song". I believe they attempted a group comeback, but I'm really not sure if they ever did. Sad, because again all 4 (or 3.. I'm still not sure about Nokio) of the guys had major talent. The current guys out there in R&B could definitely take some lessons. Songs to Listen To: "In My Bed", "We're Not Making Love no More", "5 Steps", "April Showers"
- Lauryn Hill & the Fugees - I'm sure everyone is familiar with Lauryn Hill and the Fugees. Had several hits in the late 90s as a group, and several solo hits, especially Lauryn Hill's solo album. The group broke up and all members disappeared for a few years. They've been resurfacing lately as a group and solo, but things still seem uncertain. And Lauryn's mental stability remains in question. :-p Songs to Listen To: "Fu-Gee-La", "Ready or Not", "Killing Me Softly", (Lauryn's singles) "Doo Wop", "To Zion", "Ex-Factor"
- Brownstone- Another girl group with great voices. This list is making me sad. So many good voices into obscurity while no-singing Ashanti and Beyonce and Ciara run rampant... it's an OUTRAGE! Brownstone had a few mildly successful singles in the mid-90s. The lead singer left the group and was replaced by another powerhouse singer, who had more of a gospel-tinge to her voice. the last I heard she had gone solo too. No idea where they are today. Songs to Listen to: "Grapevyne", "If You Love Me"
- Shanice - Had a few hit singles back in the early 90s. She had a really nice, strong, beautiful voice. Back in her day, I believe she was considered second best to Mariah Carey (who's having remarkable stamina despite "Glitter" and "Rainbow"), a spot now held by Christina Aguilera. Sad again, because this girl had an amazing voice. Songs to Listen to: "I Love Your Smile", "It's For You"
- Allure - A girl group from the mid 90s who was completely overtaken by the pop stylings of Beyonce & the Supremes(oh, I meant Destiny's Child). Allure's failure and Destiny Child's success was (for me) THE pinpoint moment of popular R&B's turn for the worst. Song to Listen To: "All Cried Out" (a beautiful song featuring 112 and penned by Mariah Carey.)

Most of these people were genuinely talented, yet have disappeared off the music scene for whatever reasons.
