system of a down ? sigh ......, what about thursday

I thought Kiss was already in. Alice Cooper, on the other hand, should be inducted for his massive influence alone.

Of the names on your list, I'd say the ones that have the best shot at being inducted at some point are: Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Guns N' Roses, Green Day, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Judas Priest, Rush, Beastie Boys, the Pixies, Soundgarden, Alice in Chains, Smashing Pumpkins, Radiohead, Eminem, Beck, Tupac Shakur, and Nine Inch Nails.

John Coltrane, Phil Ochs, and Peter Tosh should all definitely be in there. Not to mention Ornette Coleman.

Interesting list. I don't know why I decided to reply to this in this much detail but here it is:

•Nirvana: probably will make it someday
•Pearl Jam: ushered in a new era of grunge rock, more influential than they often get credit for, should be in as soon as they're eligible
•Guns N' Roses: practically a lock
•Foo Fighters: no way. They've already been forgotten about.
•Motley Crue: don't know enough to answer
•System of a Down: don't really have a classic album or even more than a handful of radio singles. Doubtful
•Pantera: can't really say
•Green Day: sadly, they are the kind of band that could make it someday, despite having nary an original thought between them.
•Linkin Park: awful. Not even close.
•Red Hot Chili Peppers: probably
•Judas Priest: can't say
•Kiss: aren't they in already?
•The White Stripes: need several more big albums/big hits
•Bon Jovi: too well-liked to not make it
•Dio: probably not. He's only really remembered for one song.
•Rush: I think they are deserving, but the Hall seems to have an anti-prog bias so I doubt they will get in
•Jane's Addiction: can't say
•Rage Against The Machine: they might induct them to stir up controversy, but Rage didn't really do anything new or even particularly well.
•Beastie Boys: I guess so. Deserving but given their past I wonder if they have to be careful inducting white rappers. They had good/great albums, a number of hits, and have been quite popular, seems like a good choice
•Dave Matthews Band: No way. He's awful. Will be forgotten in 10 years.
•The Pixies: Deserving, but I can't see them getting voted in
•Soundgarden: Not even close
•Jeff Buckley: Can't say
•Alice In Chains: Can't say
•Smashing Pumpkins: Probably yes
•Radiohead: A lock. One of the most famous and yes, best bands of the last 20 years. They are like our generation's Pink Floyd.
•Lauryn Hill: doesn't she only have one album? She is already more or less forgotten.
•Coldplay: pretty bland, pretty derivative, but if they keep up their level of fame it could happen.
•Creed: everybody hates this band already. Not a chance.
•Eminem: I'm guessing he'll end up making it someday. He's remained huge over a decade despite his "dangerous" reputation. I don't know if the Hall will want to touch him but by the time he's eligible I can see his lyrics being looked upon as being a little more harmless.
•Oasis: blah. Doubt it.
•Blink 182: No way. They're just a standard pop/punk band that was not even famous for very long.
•Weezer: Maybe had a chance, but they've been mediocre for way too long.
•Beck: Probably should make it, but he's a tough sell for the Hall.
•Stone Temple Pilots: really doubt it
•Tupac Shakur: probably. Can really see the Hall wanting to induct a few black rappers over the next decade!
•Nine Inch Nails: Well, I think they (he) are (is) deserving, but he needs a few more standards like "Closer" and "Hurt", which he's not likely to get over the next decade.
•Living Colour: Only one classic album though they've been consistanly good. I just don't see it.
•Faith No More: Maybe deserving, but total cult band.
•The Cult: whoa.
•Yngwie Malmsteem: Again, how many voters have even heard of this guy? He is perhaps one of the most talented guitar players ever; he just doesn't really make very good music.
