  • I don't consider myself to be a fan of rap* or electronica, so that should account for many of these.

* - I'm not the kind of person who'll justify a hatred of rap by saying that it's too violent, or too hedonistic, or too misogynistic. The music (if you can call it that) just doesn't appeal to me.

I'll probably try these artists someday.

I'm not familiar with all (well, ok... with many) of the artists on the list, but The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill is really a good album. Also, I just checked and my dad has (seriously) 18 Tom Waits CDs, so I'm guessing he's good. I'm sure I've heard his stuff, but I probably didn't know what I was listening to.

Like I said before Bjork scares me. What if that swan attacked some one?

Too bad, AJ, you're missing out on some truly outstanding music. If you'll allow me, I'll give you a brief list of what albums you should listen to from some of these artists (okay, my favorite albums, if you must ask):
- Bjork: Debut, Vespertine
- DJ Shadow: Endtroducing..., The Private Press
- Brian Eno: Here Come The Warm Jets, Before and After Science, Ambient I: Music For Airports
- Kraftwerk: Trans-Europe Express
- Massive Attack: Blue Lines, Protection
- Tricky: Maxinquaye

Start with these, if you can. Borrow them from a friend who might have them, or pester your local library if they have a hip record collection.

I understand most of these if you really just dont like rap or electronica. But you should really check out Eno's four 70's vocal albums (Here Come the Warm Jets, Taking Tiger Mountain, Another Green World, Before and After Science). They're not really electronic at all, but rather New Wave (and a little glam). They're more in line with something like Talking Heads or Brian Eno, and they are really excellent.

duff, this comment makes no sense. I meant to say Talking Heads or David Bowie, i did!
