Are you brunettes to rumble ?: pro-wrestling matches in the movies

  • Night and the City (directed by Jules Dassin in 1950, this classic "film noir" revolves around the underground world of fighting sports and stars the late great pro-wrestler Stanislaus Zbyszko)
  • The Highlander (the opening scene from the '86 Mulcahy cult movie features The Fabulous Freebirds and assorted stars of the time in a bout in a full-packed arena)
  • Spider-Man (as in the comics, Peter first finds some fame in the Sam Raimi adaptation as a pro-wrestler, here he faces BoneSaw, a fictitious character played by the very real superstar "Macho Man" Randy Savage)
  • No Holds Barred (stupid WWE(then WWF)-produced exploitation movie from 1989 featuring Hulk Hogan and others portraying fictitious wrestlers)
  • Rocky 3 (Balboa the self-indulgent world champ faces Thunderlips, a pro-wrestler played by a young Hulk Hogan, in a fundraising boxing-wrestling bout)
  • Ready to rumble (horrendous comedy starring David Arquette based around and produced by WCW in 2000)
  • They Live (this might be a little stretch but the seemingly endless alley fight between the characters played by actor Keith David and pro-wrestler-actor Roddy Piper is so much like a pro-wrestling match)
  • Escape from New-York (Carpenter shoots a more straightforward match here, inside a ring, between Snake Plissken/Kurt Russell and 70's pro-wrestling superstar Ox Baker)
  • The man in the golden mask (french biopic starring Jean Reno as Father Vitorio Gaetano, a real-life mexican priest who used to wrestle as a masked luchadore to raise money for his congregation)
  • Beyond the mat (candid documentary by lifelong wrestling enthusiast Barry Blaustein should not be watched by any fans of Jake The Snake)
