Author Comments:
Just trying to keep track of all the People from down under who are popping up in Hollywood these days. Mel Gibson was actually born in New York state, but moved with his family to Australia. He was further brought up and educated in Australia. He graduated from the University of South Wales, and was roomates with Geoffrey Rush. And then after he became more of a star, moved back to the United States. During WW2, soldiers and the armies of New Zealand and Australia were referred to, jointly, as the ANZACS.

Don't forget Melanie Lynskey!
Some names you missed;
Hugh Jackman
Baz Luhrmann (Director)
Geoffrey Rush
Keisha Castle-Hughes
Melissa George
Bryan Brown
Rhada Mitchell
I think Kidman also has dual nationality. She was born in Hawaii.
And Cliff Curtis (Once Were Warriors, Deep Rising, Whale Rider)
Don't know some of the people you are mentioning, but i will add them. I mean I know Baz Lurhmann and Jackman, and Brian Brown(F/X), and I did put Geoffrey Rush down. And Noah Taylor, the guy who played the younger David Helfgott in Shine. Is Hugo Weaving British or Canadian?
Hugo Weaving is actually African born. Spent some time at school in England according to IMDB. Keisha Castle-Hughes was Oscar nominated last year for her role in Whale Rider. Rhada Mitchell was the lead actress in Pitch Black, and has had a lot of roles lately. Most notably in Finding Neverland, Man On Fire and Woody Allen's 'Melinda And Melinda'. Melissa George is in Alias on tv amongst small film roles. I can see bigger things on the horizon for her though.
I was wrong about Naomi Watts it seems, she's not Australian, She's English, Born and Raised in Sussex. Oops. Thought I heard different
I love Aussie/NZ actors and films! Here's some more:
For directors:
BTW, the Baz Luhrmann movie you mean is "Strictly Ballroom," not "Ballroom Dancing."
A few suggestions:
and of course the legendary
Sorry, guys, I have been away and busy and haven't had time to revise the list. I will do so now. Thanks for the input.
never would have guessed noah taylor or errol flynn... although now it makes sense.
Off topic, but I went to school with James Wan (Saw) and he was my date for the "prom" :-)
