amazing things about kubrick

  • 1. His camera is always centered with the character talking. Notice in all his movies the speaking character is usually centered in the frame.
  • 2.All acting is performed in a dead pan type of delivery. They seem to be reading off of cue cards most of the time. Only when real raw emotion is necessary do the actors deliver such a monologue.
  • 3.If you notice in most of the camera shots from any given movie, the ceiling, the floor, and both side walls of any room being photographed is visible. This constitutes perfection in vision. Stanley is the man.
  • There are many more reasons but they seem to be more subtle, so I will refrain from elaborating on them.

For me, one of the great things about Kubrick is/was his ability to find the perfect music to enhance his visual art. This is particularly evident in DR STRANGELOVE, A CLOCKWORK ORANGE, 2001: A SPACE ODYSSEY, and BARRY LYNDON.

you know bertie thats a good point. It seems during crucial scenes, he's able to find music that enhances his mood. It seems really strong in Full Metal Jacket as well, especially the ending scene when the troops are standing over the dying sniper.
