  • Euphoria
  • For the Mind, Body and Soul Euphoria:
  • Easily the best in my opinion due to it being almost a trance classics album from 1999 meaning it has variability and the tracks arnt sell outs yet! The mixing I enjoy too. Very simple on the whole by PF Project (and tiny mistakes can be heard too :-s) and I love the way the next track can be heard in the middle of the track playing to keep you excited about whats next. All of which gives the mix character rather than the flawless computer mixes we are accustomed to today.

  • Classic Euphoria Level 2:
  • Yes, it is a classics album and yes its produced by Ministry Of Sound which would normally not warrent it any praise but Classic Euphoria Level 2 does. It didnt go for many of the mainstream "classics" that appear on EVERY trance classics album these days (yes Gouryella, For an Angel, El Nino etc that is you!) mainly becasue they were on the first Classic Euphoria! But instead mixed together some more obsure and less commercial tracks between the likes of Better Off Alone, 9pm, Bullet In The Gun which are there to keep the sales up with there commercially firendly sounds. The Mixing is probably what makes this album not "just another classics album" and why i rate it highly. Jay Burnet seemlessly (on the whole) mixes the tracks together with some of the hinting of what to come like i said in "For the Mind, Body and Soul..." and tracks meld into one another in some cases leaving you wondering where the tracks actually changed.

  • Just come out as a Digital Only Release and its by far one of Ministry's best (trance) releases in a long time. Airwave mix together a perfect blend of mellow and progressive trance to make this a great one to watch the sun go down or come up to. The best bit.....not a single classic track in site and not even a whiff of cheese!

  • Cream Ibiza: Paul Van Dyk
  • Clubland (I know these are rubbish but i felt i should put them on seeming as there were the 1st dance albums i bought and hooked me on EDM)
  • Clubland 4:
  • The only slightly decent one in the series. Shoot me if you want but sometimes i just need some mindless, un inspiring cheese which this fits perfectly for. There are actually some half decent trance tracks on it by Paul Van Dyk, Matt Darey and Darren Tate.

  • The first Electro "Trance" album i have heard that has managed to keep my attention. Most Electro Trance mixes (which is just about everything these days) just gets incredibly monotomous after about 20 mins and i tire quickly from it however, Mark Etesons Mix on CD2 (i havent really listened to CD1 enough to comment) is really good. There is a progression in the music from more mellow to full on that you dont norally get with Electro Trance mixes that just "flatline". My only critisism is that the Epic/Anthem Trance at the end of the mix is pretty poor. There is about 12mins of breakdown shared between about 5 songs and when the tune finaly arrives you wish it hadnt! I would havemuch prefered for the Electro to continue.

  • Underground Ibiza 2008:
  • The best album Ministry has produced in a LONG time! So good infact I decided to write a review on Amazon which I will put below:
  • Its no secret that Ministry Of Sound (MOS) lost the plot after 2000. Book style CD cases turned into your bog standard cardbored box, 2 CD's turned into 3 CD's as Ministry tried to make us think we were getting value for money but infact just gave us CD's full of dull "filler" tracks, a computer replaced DJ's like Judge Jules and Pete Tong...but worst of all was the replacement of great tracks with commercial cheese like DJ Sammy, Scooter & Flip & Fill as MOS tried to appeal to a wider audience, most notably, kids. Fast forwards to the present and it seems that every other album (MOS) releases is "Classics" based as they try to squeeze every last penny out of tracks that are now 10+ years old and should really be left by now.
  • However, Underground Ibiza 2008 and the previous 2 albums in the Underground series look to change Ministry for the better.
  • For starters, the packaging and presentation. Innocent springs to mind with the albums simple & minimal modern look that makes it look quite classy actually. You could walk past this album in the shop and not even give it a second look...but you should! The cardbord case is unglossed which actually gives the album a slightly "underground" feel. i.e. Like it hasnt come from a huge commercial name in Electronic Music. Instead of 3CD's in separate cases in a box, MOS have made the album a "Digi-Pack" like many albums were way back when. It must cost a bit more to make the packaging, but its great to see Ministry trying to make this album something a bit more special than everything else out there sitting on the shelf, and that they dont mind it cutting into thier profit by having the Digi packaging.
  • Open up the Digi-Pack and you are once again greeted with the simple yet effective yellow to red sunset colour scheme. Also, Ministry added a nice touch by putting the outline of the egg from the San Antonio round-about on the right hand side that just show that thought has gone into this album. Fully open, and its simple and classy still. The booklet on the left is nothing to shout about with just the album credits, but it does have a nice little introduction to the album on the first page. The 3 CD's sit side by side and all look the same (red with a white stripe) that adds to the feeling that this album is all about the music rather than most things that get churned out by MOS these days which have "over the top" fonts, pictures and colour schemes that try to hide the fact the tracks are either 10 years old or not that good...well, not here!
  • So, what about the music? Well being an "underground" album the tracks are fresh, new and pushing into new electronic music boundaries, although its now the end of the summer, so those who were lucky enough to have gone to Ibiza this year have probably been dancing to these tracks morning, noon and night all summer! Furthermore, being an Ibiza album as well there is a summer vibe running through it. The first CD starts with the Eastern European sounding "Gypsy" by Steve Angello before Sébastien Léger takes us to a new continent with the African sounding "Cylo"! John Dahlbäck however stops the little tour and brings us back to the albums main focus...Ibiza! A balearic vibe runs through till about half way through CD1 where some harder tracks start to kick in, yet still keep a fun (electro) housey feel.
  • Disc 2 takes things much deeper, darker and harder than the first disc with techno stormers from techno masters such as Laurent Garnier and Adam Beyer and some great Minimal tracks like "Katzenburo" and "Cylinder Swing"
  • Disc 3 is a much more laid back affair with a combination of everything from house, techno and chillout, yet never once sounds over crowded.
  • Each disc has its own distinct style and its great to see that each one only has about 13/14 tracks which is just about the optimum number of tracks a mix should have...not too few you feel you are not getting your money's worth but not crammed with as many radio edits as possible so that there is no logical progression of the tracks and so that there is no time to let each track build because the next one is already playing (which MOS is often guilty of). Its also a great mix of "old blood" like Underworld and "new blood" like Deadmau5.
  • All in all this is not just a great album full of fresh, cutting edge and ground-breaking tracks...its a distant light at the end of a dark tunnel. For nearly 10 years now Ministry has wondered around lost but this album...this series of albums shows that all is not lost yet for Ministry Of Sound and that they are still capable of releasing quality albums.
  • So, should you buy it? Yes, if you are a true electronic music fan, love house/techno/minimal, want to know what tracks are going to be big in a few months and/or wish to imagine that your lying on the beach or dancing like hell in Space on the White Isle as the rain lashes down here in this trully awful summer we have had in the UK! However...if your expecting Ministy's usual round up of 3 discs of 20 3 minute long exhausted "classics" I would look else where like "The Very Best Of Euphoric Dance Breakdown - Summer 2008", because Underground Ibiza is the future of Electronic music...and hopefully Ministry Of Sound!

  • Gatecrasher Global Sound System:
  • This takes some getting used to but once you do it is wonderfull. A darkish (this is a Gatecrasher album after-all!!!) mix that still manages to be summery and light at the same time. Gatecrasher could have gone for the commercialism and sell out trance that followed '99 (this can be heard in The Ibiza Annual Summer 2000 although its not terrible on there) but instead the took this new angle....hats off to them!
  • Gatecrasher National Anthems:
  • Gatecrasher gone commercial. Much more in the style of Ministry of Sound Annuals in terms of track selection and style (it came in a Ltd, Edition Leather Book Case with a 20 page booklet that MOS had been doing since 1995)It gets away with it in my opionion as it didnt try to pass itself off as an album with new, future tracks but a look back on Gatecrashers year and world tour
  • Gatecrasher Discotech Generation:
  • The dark horse of the series in my opinion, deffinately a winter album. I was playing it walking home in the cold and dark this winter and sudddenly the whole album 'made sense'

  • In My Memory:
  • I think this contains the mans best works under his own name...it has a little bit of everything.
  • In Search Of Sunrise 1:
  • Massively over-rated in my opinion. I cant see how this is the best trance mix ever. The only highlights for me were Chicane's Remix, Yahel's track and the Lange track and the Lange Remix near the end. I will listen to a bit more in the coming weeks and see if it makes more sense in the summer
  • In Search Of Sunrise 2:
  • As with 1 i cant see what is so great about this although at least this one isnt claimed as the best trance mix ever. I will listen to this one too to see if it makes "sense" in the summer. In both cases I think Gatecrashers retrospective albums (Wet for ISOS1 and Global Sound System for ISOS2) outshine Tiestos.

  • Hard Energy:
  • The worst album i own, i dont even know why i bought it, i knew it was going to be rubbish but that stupid "donk" bassline has some certain appeal to me. I bought it along with Behind The Sun by Chicane....probably as far apart in the EDM spectrum as possible.
  • Hardcore Heaven 3
  • Hardcore Nation:
  • My favourite hardcore album, not cheesy in the slightest and has an underground feeling. A breath of fresh air from the v. vocal and synth hardcore on most albums with stupid MC's shouting "this is ultimate xxxxxx-treme super fast hardcore" etc It has a nice mix of Happy Happy Hardcore, Trancecore and Freeform. Robbie Longs mix is unbelievable....the only hardcore mix to hold my attention throughout anf leave me wanting more rather then a sit down!
  • In My Memory
  • Choice-John Digweed: A Collection of Classics:
  • Great oldie album with the tracks that influenced the man himself. Stretches back into the mid 80's before I was even born!
  • Behind The Sun
  • The Thrillseekers Night Music Vol 2
  • The No.1 Ibiza Chillout Album
  • The Politics of Dancing 2
  • Underworld 1992-2002:
  • I absolutely love this. Underworld are if not the best, oneof the best producers of EDM. Nothing more to be said!
  • Xtravaganza Mix (Memories of a Long Hot Summer in Space):
  • Boring! This is a prime example of what i was talking about electro getting very monotomous. I will listen again but i dont think it will have changed.
  • Oh god...how wrong was I! Fooking amazing album. How could I have ever thought this to be monotomous?! Techy/electro/house and some techno also thrown in (i think :-s) makes this a top album for me. Shows how mt tastes have matured over a year!
