I re-upped with emusic after they changed from unlimited downloads to their current iteration where you pay a monthly fee for a set number of tracks. (In my case, I pay $20 for 90 songs.) Even though it's a rip-off that 35-second instrumental interludes count as much as 30-minute mega-songs, it's still a huge deal compared with iTunes or Napster.
If an album has (incomplete) after it, it means that I didn't download some of the tracks - typically those less than one-minute in length.
10/31/04 - Quit again because of bad customer service.
12/19/04 - Uh, joined again when given a free month's subscription.

What bitrate does emusic offer the files at? Is it loaded with DRM so you can't play it on anything but a few select software and hardware players?
Emusic uses Variable Bitrate for their downloads, so for example, the Les Savy Fav album varies from a low of 138 kbps to a high to 238 kbps. It seems that the average is around the 190's.
No DRM - everything is MP3 with no funny biz. As of now, you can burn and move the files as often as you wish to anywhere you want. The news of the "upgraded service" scares me, though.
(And I swear I'm not a shill - actually the bastards kicked me out in the "unlimited" incarnation for downloading too much - but if you sign up for the first time, I think they give you a 100 track trial. It's a really great deal.)
Cool. MP3 is still my favorite file format because:
1. It's the most widely compatible compressed audio format.
2. It's simply impossible to fuck it up with DRM.
3. I don't have the ears of an audiofile, so as long as its 128 kb/s or higher, it sounds great to me.
I agree completely. As with you, if it's 128 or above, I'm happy.
