Man, I totally disagree with you. Are you sure you have seen all the movies that these people have been in? Some of these people really can act. I agree with Schwartzenegger and some others, but Michael Douglas, Harrison Ford, Bruce Willis and Kevin Costner don't deserve to be on that list. So what if they made a lot of blockbuster action flicks??? For every single one of these actors I could probably think of at least movie in which they did a good job.

If you want to make a real list, how about starting with Keanu Reeves?

Okay, Kevin Costner did a great job in Dancing With Wolves, but name one realy good performance from Bruce Willis, Harrison Ford and specialy Michael Douglas, and I'll take them off the list.

Bruce Willis: Twelve Monkeys (smirkless!) and Nobody's Fool. Perhaps Pulp Fiction. Harrison Ford: The Fugitive, Witness, and Raiders (go ahead, tell me he wasn't perfect - or does it have to be a serious role to count?). Michael Douglas: Falling Down, Fatal Attraction, and Wall Street.

In my estimation, you can "act" as long as you can play at least one character-type well. However, some folks (you, perhaps?) equate acting with "versatile". And I would agree that these three are not particularly versatile. But what they do, they do well, as evidenced by these movies (IMO).

Ok Jim, I can see where you're going with Bruce Willis and you might be right... specialy with 12 Monkeys... but Ford and Douglas never! Michael Douglas is somehow able to pick the right script every time. That's his formula for sucsess.
I don't think we need to discuss Mel Gibson at all...
But hey, don't get me wrong, I love all of these guys and I enjoyed watching practicaly all of their movies... (except maybe Ford's 6 days, 7 nights). It's just that I don't think they're good actors.

And I think Crash Davis was Costner's best role, even though I did enjoy Dances With Wolves.

Dances With Wolves is definately his best performance

A few examples:

  • Bruce Willis: Look Who's Talking, Die Hard, Blind Date. I think his biggest problem is his utter inability to pick a decent script.

  • Mel Gibson: Maverick, Man Without a Face, Ransom. Plus, I love to watch him hit/shoot people in the Lethal Weapon movies. 8^)

  • Harrison Ford: Air Force One, Clear and Present Danger, The Fugitive, Witness.

  • Michael Douglas: Falling Down. (I haven't seen too much else of his.)
  • The others I'll let you have, though I don't exactly agree with you on all of them. (Nicholas Cage and Sandra Bullock are okay.) Keanu Reeves, Adam Sandler, Arnold Schwarzenegger you're 100% right on. What about Tom Arnold, Elizabeth Shue, and Christina Applegate?

You haven't realy convinced me with the examples of Harrison/Willis/Douglas/Gibson movies, I'm not taking them off my list yet, but Cage...
He's face is dead, man. He's totaly unable to change the expression on his face, sometimes reminds me of Chuck Norris. The only reason he ever got into the bussines is that Francis Ford Coppola is his uncle or something like that.
I find Tom Arnold, Elisabeth Shue And Christina Aplegate too irelevant to mention in this list. Ok, I admitt, I'm not that familiar with Shue's work, but the other two haven't realy been among the best payed actors lately, which is what this list is about.

:whats with cage you ask?? Well he obvoiusly doesnt want to act like some of the OTHER abnormal actors. It has come to a surprise that you can say something bad about every actor you can name but just remember:Not everyone agrees!!!

I think Nocolas Cage is a fine actor..

:yessssssssss nick cage is not only a good actor but hes a hottie aswell and i think that he shouldbe congragulated on his fine work. he deserves all the respect he can get!!

I totaly agree with you on Keanu Reeves, I'm putting him on top right away!

I have to agree with everyone but Michael Douglas. He was very convincing in "A Chorus Line" and "The Game." True, he only plays one of two types of parts: serious business men and....serious business men. But that's besides the point. :-)

I disagree with the choice of Bruce Willis. I do agree with the choice of Harrison Ford, I was watching one of his movies the other day and I was struck at how horribe his performance was.

I must disagree with you on Micheal Douglas I enjoyed wallstreet, falling down, disclosure, and the game. I in each of these movies he does play a business man but each business man is not the same--powerful and in control, mental breakdown and almost crazy, on the defensive and just hoping to hang on, and lastly powerful in the business sense but vulnerable as a person. So you have four business men all different and I thought he did a good job in each. You have to admitt he has some done some good movies that he performed well in, even if you don't like all of his movies.

I agree with Tate here, and not just because he is my brother! Douglas can act, even if he doesn't always choose to. His role in Falling Down, for instance, was very well done, and the film is a sadly over-looked gem.

    Shalom, y'all!

    L. Bangs

    Nicholas Cage@!!?!!?
Please see adaptation. It is one of the best movies I have ever seen and Cage is better than perfect in it.

lol very funny list. but i think cameron diaz, she can act and bruce was good in pulp fiction but otherwise totaly agree

    Great list!

    I disagree with Mel though.

Remember Gallipoli, The Year Of Living Dangerously and Lethal Weapon (cheesy but good). 3 movies may not make a career though. He's more of a lazy actor in my opinion.

    and...

    Sandra Bullock (just kidding).

Maybe Julia should be in this list too.

    Tallyho

    :?)

It helps if you think of Keanu as costly CGI.

It's amazing how far computer effects have come. He looks almost life-like.
