Check out a much more thorough list of books like this: Science by jlaroche

The subtitle of What's Going On in There? is "How the brain and mind develop in the first five years of life". I'm not done yet, but so far I'm very impressed. This is written by a research nueroscientist who is also a mother of three. The book is fascinating to the mother and the closet scientist in me.

Calling the Steven Pinker books "accessible" might be a stretch. In reality I did not read either book cover-to-cover; I read them more like research books, reading selected chapters.

I'm just curious about a comparison between Pinker and Eliot. I've read both Pinker books and greatly enjoyed them and learned a great deal from them. How would Eliot's book fit in? Does it follow the same school of thought? Does it complement or fill in gaps of the Pinker books?
