- Best Motion Picture of the Year
- No Country for Old Men (pf: There Will Be Blood)
- Not as difficult to predict as last year, but 'There Will Be Blood' could be a serious threat for Coen's 'No Country for Old Men'. 'Juno' might also pop up in the envelope here, especially with all of its critical acclaim and box office-success as of late. 'Atonement' won the Golden Globe and the Bafta, but it still is a big outsider here. 'Michael Clayton' has almost got no chances at all.
- Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role
- Daniel Day-Lewis, There Will Be Blood (pf: ditto)
- There's almost no doubt about Day-Lewis sweeping this one. Clooney might be a very small rival, but not even a serious runner-up anyway.
- Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role
- Julie Christie, Away from Her (pf: Page)
- An interesting category. Christie, Cotillard and Page are all three highly favoured. Christie is most probably going to take this one -her second one- home.
- Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role
- Javier Bardem, No Country for Old Men (pf: Bardem or Wilkinson)
- An even more obvious winner than Day-Lewis tonight might be Spain's Javier Bardem as the ice-cold killer in 'No Country for Old Men'. A performance for a life-time and a century. There is no way around the award this time.
- Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role
- Amy Ryan, Gone Baby Gone (pf: Blanchett)
- The most interesting category tonight, by far. I'm going with Amy Ryan, although I'm on a lonely post with this prediction. Most predictions see either Cate Blanchett (having won the Golden Globe and a lot of acclaim by renouned critics) or Tilda Swinton (who gained a LOT of back-up lately) as the winner. Ruby Dee is another possible pick. So, with only one outsider here, this is going to be one of the most thrilling moments of the ceremony.
- Best Achievement in Directing
- Joel & Ethan Coen, No Country for Old Men (pf: Anderson)
- The Coens again? Yep, indeed. No serious thread here either.

I was thinking and others have said that juno might take it . No Country & Blood are very similar, and could split the votes, then juno could jump in there and steal it. i want No Country to win, but i'd have no problem if juno took it
