9 Movies that obsessed me-

Tags:
  • Sante Sangre-One of the rare horror movies that I truly enjoyed. I laughed, I cried, I saw it with my friends. Most of my friends were completely mystified that I spent a summer watching and rewatching this flick. But I did and I don't regret a second of it. It's trippy, seedy, tragic and funny.
  • Wild At Heart-All of this director's films are doubtlessly strange...to the point of being a cliche. I don't care about that. I enjoyed this film thoroughly. The absurdity amused me and the odd, artistic shots that pepper the film are visually gratifying. The soundtrack also was fun. Some great one-liners too.
  • The Reflecting Skin-To this day, few films mesmerize me more than this one. I think I first watched it with a tremendous amount of discomfort. The repulsion turned quickly to fascination, then I was immersed in the art of it all. Few films can feel totally foreign and familiar at the same time for me. I have a real sense of being both inside and outside of this plot. It is believable and far-fetched. Utterly disturbing and oddly beautiful.
  • The Unbearable Lightness Of Being-This is a spent obsession for me. I tried to watch it recently. It was still excellent, but my fixation has run its course. The year this film played at theatres, I paid to watch it 8 times. Mostly matinees, as I was in college. But 8 times...I skipped meals to see it. I enjoy many of its qualities: Romantic, frustrating, voyeuristic, and in the unexpected burst of the political really surprised me at first viewing.
  • Raising Arizona-When this movie came out, I had never seen anything vaguely like it before. I laughed so hard at the theatre, my friends were embarrased to be seated next to me. I tried to control myself, I really did. I find this film funny (of course), hopeful, romantic and painfully clever. I still watch it several times a year.
  • Pulp Fiction-A very popular one, I'm sure. Quite common. But I did not escape it's charms. Plays just like pulp fiction reads. Still a favorite, though I've stopped the late nights of rewatching. I was also glad to see Travolta get his first good role in many years.
  • A Room With A View-I saw this and immediately wished this was how love really was all of the time. It might have been that I was the age where people usually begin looking for such involvement, or it might just be the quality of the film. It still hooks me emotionally, though it's been years since I sought it out. The locations are gorgeous and the dialogue charming. Nearly poetic scenes abound. I've met many who hate this film, but I truly cannot fathom it. It's gorgeous.
  • True Romance-Yes, it's aptly named. Count yourself lucky if anyone ever loves you this much...But it's the action, the cast, the development, the dialogue and pop art feel that really sucks me in. There are some amazing featured performances in this flick. I was mesmerized. It's always in my Top 10 films.
  • Fight Club-Probably one of the best movie endings I've ever seen. This movie causes me to rethink my position on Brad Pitt. Now how profound is that? I really don't care how popular it is. It's irrelevant. I buy this movie frequently for friends. The camera work is tremendous, the sets very detailed, and the story quite compelling. And there is no weak performance here. These folks are in top form for this one.
