Author Comments:
I've not seen all the ones i've listed. Any other suggestions/recommendations welcome.

not sure if it's notable... but my favorite movie directed by a woman is Slums of Beverly Hills by Tamara Jenkins
Larisa Shepitko would be one. I've only seen Ascent (1978) by her which was great. I think it won the golden berlin bear.
And Paula Delsol. I've seen La derive (1962 i think) by her this year, and it is a very good film.
Well done for that; it's one of my favourites by a female director but i accidentally missed it!
Danièle Huillet is another interesting director, although not known outside of arthouse circles. She has co-directed many films with her collaborator and husband Jean-Marie Straub.
Nicole Holofcener directed Walking and Talking (which I've seen and liked) and Lovely and Amazing.
