5 Best Female Voices in Contemporary Pop(ular) Music

  1. I'm no music expert or critic, and I mostly listen to Pop and R&B. So sue me. :-p But if you're tired of Ciara and Beyonce and Britney, you may wanna throw on one of these artists and hear some actual singing.

  2. Mariah Carey - Still the best among the competition in terms of voice alone. She went through a crazy period where she was whispering instead of singing on every track, but on her latest album she's returned to singing once again. She even tries to hit her trademark squeal again! Almost, but not quite... but still the best.
Songs to Listen to: "Someday", "I Don't Wanna Cry", "Vision of Love", "Emotions" and most recently "I Wish You Knew", "Circles", and "Fly Like A Bird"

  3. Christina Aguilera - Looked like she would take Mariah's place for a while... and then she made "Dirrrty". :-p Despite the whole XTina deal, she has a really strong and powerful voice. Not quite the Mariah, but definitely leagues ahead of the competition.
Songs to Listen to: "Reflection", "I Turn to You", "What a Girl Wants", "Beautiful"

  4. Celine Dion - Ooops, I said the "C"-word... but you cannot hate on Celine. With Mariah and Christina going the "X" route and while everyone else is competing to get the hottest rappers to make cameos- Celine stays true to her singing.
Songs to Listen to: "The Power of Love", "My Heart Will Go On", "I Want You to Need Me", "It's All Coming Back to Me", "I Surrender", "To Love You More"

  5. Toni Braxton - Another powerhouse voice gone the "X" route... but few popular contemporary singers have such a rich, powerful, and strong voice. She's one of the very few artists who can just sing a song- no gimmicks. She hasn't made any real hits lately, and I haven't heard her most recent stuff yet, but I hear it's a much-welcome "return to the roots" type like Mariah's latest. Good news. VERY good news.
Songs to Listen To: "Love Shoulda Brought You Home", "You Mean the World to Me", "Un-Break My Heart", "Seven Whole Days"

  6. Whitney Houston - Whitney at the BOTTOM of the list? Yeah, I know. But I don't think Whitney has it anymore. Too much drugs and too much Bobby. :-p The last few times I heard her try to perform live-- this was YEARS ago and she sounded BAD. But there's always classic Whitney to run back to.
Songs to Listen To: "I Will Always Love You", "I Have Nothing", "The Greatest Love of All", "I Believe In You and Me"

i completely agree-Celine's real gud."that's the way it is" is a great song too

Yes, I love that song also! Always glad to know SOMEBODY else out there likes Celine! :-)

Celine Dion should be learning what retirement means.
And is it just me or someone else agrees that ALL her songs sound so much the friggin same!

They probably do sound the same to the NON-Celine fan ;-), but those are the kinds of songs her voice is perfect for: power ballads. She has done different types of songs though, including R&B, pop, and jazz. And sometimes when she tries to sing in a different genre, it comes off as being really forced! This doesn't negate her talent anyway, and it doesn't make her a candidate for early retirement. When you wanna hear somebody with a great voice simply just singing a song, Celine is that person.

Sorry to spoil the fun but here's why Dion is so horrible.

Because you don't like her? Yeah, that makes her *so* terrible. :-p Celine can sing, period. There is no denying that Celine has one of the most amazing voices out there.
