- Closer (2004) - Let me start by saying that I liked this. I've definitely been thinking about it, and I have this theory that people might react very differently to it based on their views on love. It seems like, so far, of the people I've talked to, those who have very jaded views on love like this movie a lot more than those who do not. Now, if I had seen this movie 2 or 3 days earlier, I think I would have possibly liked it more. I was having a lot of problems with my boyfriend of 8 months, and was considering ending things. We had a huge discussion the night before I saw the movie, though, and things are going to be ok. I actually think I was more in love with him when I saw this movie than I have ever been before. So because of that, a lot of this movie seemed ridiculous. It was so pessimistic, so dramatic - and probably so true to some people, but not to me at that point. I'll let you know how I feel about it if I see it when I'm in a different position. Oh, one thing rang true, though - throughout the movie, everyone was so curious to know every detail about things, even when they knew it would be painful to hear. It's impossible to know if hearing the truth or letting your imagination go wild will be more painful.
- That was probably more personal than I had intended... With this movie, though, I think the viewer's personal thoughts and feelings on love, and their place romantically, may have a big impact on their views of the movie. While I recognize that it was a very good movie, and I did enjoy it a lot, I think I would have reacted very differently had I been in a different place in life.
