"The Dark Knight - Not bad. Heath Ledger definitely did an amazing job, but did it live up to all the hype? Uh, no. It's a Batman movie, people "

now i'm not one of these people who is going to blindly defend the film. I mean i did give it an A+ but i still had some issues with it (the phone thing mainly) and though heath did a FANTASTIC job, my fave performance was gary oldman. However one part of your comment interested me quite a bit :

" did it live up to all the hype? Uh, no. It's a Batman movie, people "

So are you saying that the conventions that come with Batman (or comic book movies) make it impossible to be great?

I'm saying that I have yet to see a great comic book movie, and this one was no exception.

Now my definition of a great movie probably differs from yours (in fact it most certainly does, based on your lists). I think Austin Powers is hilarious, but I wouldn't classify it as a great movie (Pulp Fiction on the other hand, that's a great movie).

So yes, based on my experience and my personal tastes, my conclusion is that it is impossible for a Batman movie to be great.
