I went to see   Peter Hammill   last night in London, solo, unaccompanied, on guitar and piano, which is how I prefer him. He encored with "In The End", which he admitted is the first time he has played it live in many, many years (how is this not in my top ten?).
He also played the title track from my favourite "Still Life" album - I could easily have listed this song here as a favourite, but I have already listed three other songs from this five-song album ('La Rossa' - on my CD player now as I write, 'Pilgrims', and 'Childlike Faith In Childhood's End'). Again he rarely plays this live - it's not included on any of his live albums or listed on any of his bootlegs. A regular theme of the songs he played on the night (including these two) was death and mortality, which is a common subject amongst his fifty albums to date (so there was plenty to chose from), understandable given that this was his first concert performance since a heart attack late last year.
