Virginia Madsen defintely deserves a supporting Oscar nom for Sideways. Don't think she'll get one, though.
Actually, if you look at my list of my predictions, she has a really good chance.
In every performance category, there tends to be at least one "critical darling", and I have a feeling that she'll be collecting a few critics awards, as well as a Golden Globe nod, and will probably end up with an Oscar nomination.
Afterall, if you read Oscar columns these days, everyone is talking about her, and half of the nomination is getting the attention that you need.
Hmmm, I'm glad that everyone is talking about her. It was a very good performance. She was one of my favorite actresses in the eighties.
It's not just that the performance is great, it's also that it is considered a comeback. Those two factors added together are almost unbeatable.
Even though I haven't seen all of these movies (by far not), I think it was surely German actor Bruno Ganz who delivered the best performance of 2004 in the film Der Untergang.
Sadly, I have yet to see it.
