Wow!! I think we are actually the same person, and just haven't realized it yet!!! I just purchased the Polyphonic Spree album and was very impressed with it. Also, the Hot Hot Heat album is a recent buy for me. And next on my list to buy: The Gomez album and BMRC. That Junior Senior album is actually very underappreciated, I find. I can't help but wonder, are you going to Lollapalooza this summer?
When I looked at your best of the decade list, I could tell that we had similar taste. I'm 17, and a senior in high school, so our overlapping taste is probably a function of our age and scene.
I hadn't even thought about Lollapalooza this year, but I might look into it. Here in the DC area, we have the Hfstival, which features Modest Mouse, The Yeah Yeah Yeahs, The Cure, Cypress Hill, Jay-Z, The Violent Femmes, and The Offspring...I was seriously considering attending it this year, if only to see Modest Mouse and The Cure.
Judging from your apparant tastes, I STRONGLY recommend getting "Talkie Walkie" by Air. I've gotta feeling you'll dig it. It's my favorite album this year by far.
Also, if you can find it try to get "Out of the Loop" by I Am the World Trade Center. It's really cool.
I was seriously considering getting the Air record just the other day, but I ended up getting Franz Ferdinand's album.
I'll check out I Am the World Trade Center...they sound interesting!
I Am the World Trade Center are a duo from New York (as the name insists) that really have alot of potential to be indie/dance rock(?) greats.
Their record production is really fresh and thrilling. It may be a little hard to find their albums, but it's worth it.
Could you rate these albums in some fashion? For those poor music lovers who have to pick and choose.
What do you do for a living?
Tallyho
:?)
I was actually thinking of adopting Pitchfork's out of 10 rating system for these albums. I suppose I'll start implementing that now.
I am an 18 year old about to enter the University of the Arts in Philadelphia. I also work at IKEA.
Thanks for rating them. :?)
What's the major?
Have you heard the new Death Cab For Cutie and does Planes sound anything like it?
Tallyho
:?)
I have heard a little bit of Transatlanticism, but not all...for some reason, I'm not in too much of a rush. Most of my friends who love Deathcab liked the album a lot.
I'm gonna slowly go through and grade the albums that I feel comfortable grading.
I'm majoring in Acting.
Yay! A fan of Death From Above... very cool.
GREAT live band!
Yeah my friend saw them live and raved... that's how I know about them... he's actually going to see them again... sometime this month I think.
Did he by any chance see them w/ The Unicorns?
(by the way, where do you live?)
I am Canadian... as the beer ads say :)
Ah, well, that makes sense, considering that DfA is also a buncha canucks (term used lightly and playfully).
Are you going to get Wilco's new album?
Here's the thing...I love Yankee Hotel Foxtrot so much that I'm scared to hear the new one. The critical reception even from people who love Wilco has been lukewarm.
I'll pick it up when my expectations are nice and low.
I understand. I think that the new album is entertaining, but it is not Wilco's best. It's worth the money though.
I'll try it out eventually. Jeez, my list for this year is getting long. I have a feeling that I'm just gonna shorten it to 10 and put the rest in my honorable mentions...sorry, had nothing to do with Wilco.
I'd be really interested in hearing what you thought of Banhart's album, since I loved it but I haven't really heard the opinion of a lot of listologists on it...
Ooooh... "And You Will Know Us By the Trail of Dead" have a new album out? I'll have t ocheck it out!
So, did Pitchforkmedia overrate (9.7) Arcade Fire or did they get it right for once?
I actually tend to agree with a lot of their reviews (notice I did not say all) and I do love The Arcade Fire. It's gorgeous and moving...plus the opening track is to die for.
Ooh, you must let me know what you think of Loveless.
I'm really excited to listen to it, so I'll be sure to tell you.
What are your thoughts of Lemon of Pink? ;-)
After the first listen, I think it's awesome. But I'll get it a few more spins before making any real opinions.
