- **Vince, Hubert & Sayid are three economically impaired men, jobless and without motivation they aimlessly drift through days creating havoc. A riot has broken out in Paris and the police have beaten a young Arab friend of theirs seriously. The same day a policeman loses his gun. The aftermath of the riots finds their ghetto is a mass of burnt business and looted buildings. Vinz has found the policeman's gun and seems intent on killing a cop for revenge. The three of them drift about finding and causing trouble, an easy thing to do in their area. The film is a nihilistic social commentary that shares the considerable power of its influences: Taxi Driver, Do The Right Thing, etc. The unapologetic was director Kassovitz rummages through his characters’ lives, revealing their faults, anger and frustration with a mixture of sympathy and pragmatism is incredibly jarring. The black & white cinematography starkly recording every brutal moment with the same unflinching resolve. Yet the film has visual style brilliant cramped close-ups and fish-eyed panning shots mixed with a complex use of camera angles that seems to intensify each scene. La Haine is a film that confidently shows a world of social repression, racism and economic desolation with pragmatism and skill. This is a classic statement of angry youth.

- **Bertie tells me of such pleasure, as only the fated remake of RIII could deliver, I'd resisted such foibles of dastardly deed, but with such reccomendations I was inclined with speed, to watch the king who couldn't find a steed. I entangled such tangled a tale as was written, and with glistening visuals my eyes were bidden, to behold a nefarious brother whose spite did kill, almost the entire cast on the whim of his will, the portrayal was fine as the story was simplified, to tell a modern tale of what the bard had (sorta) spied, and in each scene did Ian McKellen swallow every actor every object that on the screen did wallow, and with the help of an enviable cast, cast a spell across the past, and brought a future tale of woe, The director should take a bow, I did have a grouse that niggled me indeed, The movie seemed a bit rushed to see the king without his steed, and while most scenes worked a spell so dour, there were a couple of duds in the first hour.

- **An anime film about two buxom sorceresses fighting an irrascable evil and it's cohorts. The sheer vivaciousness of the film is fabulous. Everything is bright, round and exagerated (which can sometimes be irritating yet here it's endearing and sometimes friggin' funny) and exceedingly fast paced. I can only imagine being a 15 year old boy and seeing "Slayers", it would shoot onto my 100 favorite films instantly. As for us adults the film has its charms, one being a kooky sense of humour. Suprisingly good film.

Cloned From:

"That'll do, pig, that'll do."
What a wonder Toy Story is.
The Postman is, imho, Kevin Costner's most successful foray into sf.
The Quick and the Dead - what a goofy western.
Yes! Strange Days reminds of another name for my hotties list: Juliette Lewis, wielder of the lewdest smile in cinema history. That opening sequence with her teasing then tumbling her boyfriend is truly thermal.
Copycat merely average? With not one but two strong female leads? And a squirrel of a perfomance by Harry Connick Jr? Added to which you get a primer on sks in the U.S.? I'm not saying it's great, but it's better than average.
I disagree also with four of your cellar dweller relegations. Care to guess?
You must see Sir Ian McKellan's Richard III; it's a hoot and a half.
"Ba-ray-me" baby.
You're joking about The Postman with Kevin Costner. Right? However, this is not that postman it is Il Postino a sappy yet entertaining Italiano feature.
Love the hole through the head shot. Only Sam Raimi. Russell Crowe is the man of my sisters loins. <----Kinda ew
Okay, cellar dwellers:
I'm guessing Village Of The Damned, Tommy Boy, Sabrina and The Net. Hopefully its not How To Make An American Quilt, which could be retitled How To Make A Canadian Guffah not to be confused with the great Common Threads: Stories From A Quilt. Wynonna Ryder strikes again, it's good she finally got arrested for shop-lifting because she's been doing cinematic crimes for years.
Copycat: Great leads and overblown HCJ perf but what about the serial killer guy? The film degenerates towards the end becoming sillier and sillier until the overblown ending with too many contrivances bottoms out a entertaining 1st hour. Interesting casting in this film. Has some really atrocious writing which actually includes a scene where a character uses the word Sexness.
I've been putting off watching it, but I'll bite the bullet on your say-so.
Tallyho
:?)
Then you should have given it its proper title. And I am serious about Costner's movie. Makes his Waterworld look all wet.
Re. cellar dwellers: you got one out of four, and I consider that not bad guessing. The one you got is Village of the Damned (I can still smell that guy getting fried on the barbeque). The other three are Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls, Jumanji and Money Train. Mind you, I would only upgrade these to guilty pleasures.
Your comment on Juliette Lewis is glaringly absent.
If the thought of RIII as set in a kind of alternate history 1930s appeals to you, you should get a buzz out of McKellan's movie. Good supporting cast too.
I'll have to rewatch The Postman (Kev Co).
You're absolutely right...look up...it's a bird...it's a plane...it's IL POSTINO-MAN. <---I am a silly silly person
Anyway, I almost guessed Jumanji, and I decided not to only because I don't know your tastes well enough, so I played it safe. BTW Tommy Boy seems to be gathering a cult following. Let's take this moment and think...HUH?
I'm cogitating in regards to J-Lew. I'm caught between two conflicting opinions. She's got a fab face and fine attributes, plus she's actually really nice in interviews and she can act the pants of Gerard Depardieu (Whatever that means)...yet, she's uber-thin and I'm a plump-lover, I can't help it.
{:?| <---stook waiting for hottie list
RIII - I'm renting it 2morrow. They've got it at the local video store. Woohoo. It's on videocassette. Dang. But it's only been rented 2 times. hmmm.
And what's your opinion of...PERSUASION? BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! <---It's 11:30 PM
I'm greatly enjoying the posts BTW.
T'ho
:?)
Let me know when you've watched RIII - I'm looking forward to hearing how, despite my expectations, you hated it.
Well...I watched it and the review is above...
Don't give up your day job. In fact, don't give up any job unless it requires you to write verse.
[bertie puts on 20/20 hindsight spectacles to write]: I knew you'd like it, knew you'd put it in very good...[takes off spectacles and crushes them underfoot]...knew you'd write a review in a bomb in a bull verse.
Aw, c'mon I thought that review was good, and I worked really hard on it too.
{Bertie Is Psychic} shall be duly noted in my memoirs, which in case you're interested will be called "My So-Called Life" as to cash in on said cult TV show and make lots of mullah.
