Breaking Away
... One of my favorite feel-good movies. This, Watership Down (which traumatized me), and Moonraker (I specifically remember my Dad deciding my brother and I were probably old enough to go to a Bond movie with him) are the movies that leap to mind as a permanent part of my youth. This is easily the best of the three, and stands up marvelously having watched it again almost 25 years later. The Kid With the Golden Arm
... A favorite kung-fu movie from my youth, but it's probably been 20 years since my last viewing. What the heck - I'll list it based on how I remembered it as a 12-year-old rather than how I'd probably view it now.Manhattan
... It happens twice in this movie that a character tries to deflect responsiblity for breaking someone's heart by saying "I warned you I'd do this." In this movie as in life, reminders of such warnings are delivered plaintively, a paper shield held up before the iron guilt you feel in the harm you're causing someone you loved (and perhaps still love). These are just two of the many little truths scattered throughout this movie, and I've finally found a Woody Allen movie to love. Lovely black & white cinematography of NYC, and a fab score with lots of Gershwin ice this one.Really Liked
Apocalypse Now
... Owe this a rewatch.The Black Stallion
Mad Max
Glad I Saw
Life of Brian
The Magnificent Butcher
... All the kung-fu movies I've been watching lately have made extensive use of wires, so this one was refreshing where wires, if they were used at all, don't require huge suspension of disbelief. My ear is deaf to Chinese comedy, so movies with many comedic elements lose points with me, but the fight scenes in this one are excellent, and the plot is nice and clean. This is another Huang Fei Hong movie, but it focusses on "Butcher Wing", one of his students. Actually, of the Huang Fei Hong movies I've seen, this one is probably my favorite. The Muppet Movie
Rocky II
Guilty Pleasures
Moonraker
The Warriors
Could Have Missed
Being There
Star Trek
Should Have Missed
The Jerk
El Sucko Grande
