Author Comments:
I just thought it would be convenient to compile all the movies I need to see for each of my individual 1970's years. I did notice that I had lower standards for movies to get onto this list than when I made lists for decades (such as my 1930's list of movies I need to see). Not all of these movies are essential. But they're all movies I'm considering, so I put them all here.
I will do the same for the 80's and 90's and probably the 00's, but not now. I don't feel like it.
Cloned From:

Damn, Superman came out in '78?! I feel old.
Of these, I've seen 5, 6, 12, 17, 18, 24, 26, 27, 29, 30, 32, 35, 42, 43, 57, 59, 60, and 63. There are probably a couple others that I've also seen (like The Outlaw Josey Wales, but since I have no memory of them, I'm not counting them). Of that bunch, my favorites are Jaws and The Last Picture Show. I recall not liking Five Easy Pieces and Garden of the Finzi-Continis, but I fully intend to give at least the latter another shot some day.
Thanks for your input! I definitely plan to check out "Jaws" and "The Last Picture Show" - consider them both high up on my priority list. How was "Walkabout"? I heard it was supposed to be really bold filmmaking, but my brother read the book and he said it was immensely boring. Also, is "Halloween" the masterpiece horror movie that I've heard it is?
How about any 70's movies that are missing from this list? Did I pretty much cover all the bases, or do you have any to add?
Walkabout was very good and quite unusual. I imagine it's not everybody's cup of tea, but I liked it, and I'm guessing you will too.
I'd try and tell you what movies are missing from this list, but to do that I'd have to know what you've seen. Care to compile a master 70s list for me? Before you go to the trouble though, I have to warn you that it might not be a good use of your time. The 70s are not my strongest decade.
Hmm... you think I should combine all the 70's single-year lists into one big 70's list? That might be a good idea. I think I'll make it into a poll.
Nah, I wasn't suggesting that as a matter of course (the list might get huge). I was more thinking as a temporary thing to help with the "what other movies should be on this list" question.
heres my rating of some of these movies you Haven't Seen:
(Out of 5 Stars)
The Deer Hunter (1978) *****
The Godfather, Part II **** 1/2
Five Easy Pieces **** 1/2
Jaws *** 1/2
Taxi Driver *** 1/2
:) Hope that helps in some way :)
