  • **A film teeming with venil characters who thrash about hurting each other and themselves. The angry, bottomless torments of the characters in a seething mass of immorality is disturbing. The strength with which the actors delve into this material is astonishing. These qualities give the film great pace and energy but also render it hard to enjoy. A skillful morality play.

  • Good

  • An Affair To Remember
  • **A rewatch of the movie I recommended on my list and realized that's a big, huge, mammoth no. This is one sappy movie, definately sappier than I remembered. The visuals are stunning and Criterion did an excellent job restoring the color (ravishing) you can't get past the second half's long build-up to the finale. Laced with a couple of attrocious songs as sung by psychotically happy children. Who knew that with the right teacher a group of children could sound like an orchestra? It's good though, if you can get through it without feeling like you just got cow-licked.

A great movie called Curse of the Demon, and I've never heard of it. What's it about?

Let's see here, Jacques Tournier directed this gem, that's a good sign right there. An American professor discovers the nefarious goings on of a devil-worshiping cult and has a curse set upon him in the form of a piece of ancient parchment. To tell you anymore would be giving away too much about this amazing chiller. Sifficed to say this movie has at least 10 great scenes and countless great sound-bites. It's one of few films that actually gets better over the years and remains entertaining on a second and third watch. Pound for pound probably the best horror film I've ever seen, and it's got a superb ending.

Hope your mouths watering at this point.

Thanks [slobber]. Need I say I'll be on the lookout for this one? No, so I won't say it.

Interesting; I popped over to Netflix to rent this and the disc is billed as a "double feature", containing both Curse of the Demon and Night of the Demon. The first (glowing) review then clarifies: "The DVD is misleadingly billed as a "double feature," which it's not. NIGHT OF THE DEMON is the original uncut British version of the film, and CURSE OF THE DEMON is the edited-down American edition which Columbia released in the States. (Skip CURSE completely, and watch NIGHT instead!)"

I totally agree, very astute J, but for even more clarity I must advise that the Scream network often airs the movie under the Curse Of The Demon moniker, but in the original 95 minute incarnation! I'll switch it to Night Of The Demon as to not confuse the DVD buyers, but be aware, you should check the time when watching on TV.
