Great
- Black Narcissus
- The Ghost And Mrs. Muir
- **Ultra-romantic love story about a recently widowed woman who falls for a gruff, dead sea captain. Rex Harrison gives his finest performance (then again he usually gave the same performance in just about every film) and Gene Tierney is at her most luminescent. A heart-warming, witty film that perfectly captures the subtleties of love in a simple story-line. A film best experienced by curling up with your significant other on a quiet romantic evening together.
- Monsieur Verdoux
- Out Of The Past
Very Good
- Life With Father
- Odd Man Out
Good
- The Bishop’s Wife
- Body And Soul
- Dark Passage
- Germany, Year Zero
- **Depressing neo-realism story of a young boy's life in a destroyed Germany directly following the war. Rosselini is a master of understated melodrama and this film is no exception, every scene is pulsing with mirth, betrayal and sorrow. Yet the film follows a depressing vertical slide that it was impossible to follow. Leading directly to a morbid ending that undoes much of the mistique the fine first hour had built.
- P.S. Have your remote handy since this movie is laden with Germanic fast-talkers and a similar minded sub-title technician.
