* - besides jgandcag whom I'm sure has seen all of these. In fact, some of these I suggested for his Stump the Movie Fool list.

Wow, I think you've got everybody else beat so far in stumping me (I'm no jgandcag though). I haven't seen any of these, although Paths of Glory is one of the Netflix movies sitting on my TV waiting to be watched. Been kinda crazy here, so I've fallen a bit behind on my movie viewing, but I hope to get back on the wagon next week. Maybe I'll start with that one.
Hmm. If I recall correctly, you're not much of a Kubrick fan though, right? In that case, I can't really promise you'll like "Paths of Glory." On the other hand, it is definitely Kubrick's most realistic film (of the ones I've seen), and his direction is less showy, so maybe you'll be drawn in by the fascinating tale of these characters.
We shall see. Hope you like it.
If you liked "The Lady Eve" and "Sullivan's Travels", I don't see how you can go wrong with "Hail the Conquering Hero." If you like screwball comedies, then definitely check out "Bachelor Mother" and "One, Two, Three." I don't really see you as a Fellini fan, but hey, I'm not that familiar with his canon either, and I still loved "Juliet of the Spirits." "Yellow Submarine" might be a film your whole family can enjoy if they like the Beatles and dig the psychedelia. I think you've said you're not a big Woody Allen fan, so stay away from "Love and Death." If you didn't like "The 400 Blows", you might not like Truffaut's "Small Change", but hey, there might be more that rings true for you there, or at least some parts that make you laugh. And finally, I'm not really sure if you'd like "The Station Agent", but hey, you just might.
Whoa, glad I clicked through! The e-mail notification just had the Kubrick note in it! Speaking of which, my appreciation for Kubrick is all over the map. Loved Strangelove and The Shining. Liked 2001 and Spartacus, but not as much as I should. Liked Eyes Wide Shut about as much as I should. I'm not an avid fan, but he definitely produced more hits than misses for me.
As for the rest, thanks for the extensive previews! Screwball comedies are hit-or-miss for me. Some I love, but many leave me wanting. Bringing up Baby and Arsenic and Old Lace are examples of two I didn't really get into (the former to my eternal shame). So far Sturges has been working great for me, although I find him slightly less screwballish than some of the others I've seen so far.
Great list! I've seen just about all of these, maybe I will pop the others into my netflix queue. Bachelor Mother is a nice little unsung comedy.
Sorry, somehow I missed your post. I'm glad you've seen many of these, and hope you like the ones you haven't!
Man, I've only seen Lenny and Love and Death here! I think both are great, so if that's any sort of recommendation I'd probably like the rest. You asked me if I've seen Paths of Glory on another list, and now that I see it here, I guess I really do need to see it. Do you like anything Kubrick, or just paticularly this film? The Station Agent was one of those small acclaimed movies that just seemed to fall through the cracks; I thought about it, but never got around to renting it.

Regarding Kubrick, I love Dr. Strangelove and A Clockwork Orange as well. I think 2001 is a great film, but I don't personally enjoy it as much the other three; The Shining I really like, but I'm not a huge fan of horror films so that bias hurts my view of it; and Full Metal Jacket I think is good but quite flawed. That is the extent of my experience with Kubrick.
I loved The Station Agent, but I think it's a somewhat divisive film around here. Jim and geek liked it too, but Kza and dayfornight hated it IIRC. But yeah, I'd be really interested to know what you thought of any of these films - like 'em, hate 'em, or indifferent.
I just ordered Paths of Glory a couple of days ago, so I'll let you know what I think of it. I agree that Dr. Strangelove is a great movie; every actor in it gives a career performance, especially George C. Scott and Sterling Hayden (Peter Sellers goes without saying). Two others I've never seen are Lolita and Barry Lyndon; seen either of those?

"Nope," he said one week later, "though I've been meaning to see both, especially the latter."
I just saw Paths of Glory this afternoon and loved it. Great recommendation. I've included it on my "Favorite Courtroom Dramas" list, if you want to take a look.

Wow, #1! That's fantastic! I'm so glad you liked it that much! I think it's a really wonderful film as well.
Hail the Conquering Hero is such a fantastic movie.
I loved The Station Agent, which I watched because the description sounded intriguing. It is now one of my favorite movies. I also want to read the book. For those I've not seen that are not in my Netflix Queue, I need to add them. Up high. Thanks for the list.
Thanks, hope you enjoy! So glad to hear you loved The Station Agent. What an underrated masterpiece. Did you see Tom McCarthy's follow-up The Visitor too?
