Jim's idea was too good not to clone. I tried to go the half older/half newer route, but obviously my idea of newer is anything from the color era. And I'd love to see any feedback if you've seen any of these movies already or as you see them in the future.

I have seen nine of these movies. Have not seen the Ozu one but I am now intrigued based on some of your other recommendations.

Nice to see some love for Lonely are the Brave, Kind Hearts and Coronets,The Palm Beach Story and especially Matewan.

I've only seen Matewan and Bottle Rocket from this list, both of which I enjoyed (particularly the former; John Sayles rocks). I'll work on the rest. It'll be easy to get off my duff and see The Palm Beach Story as I've been on a bit of a Sturges tear recently (well, if two movies constitutes a "tear").

Just saw Stray Dog last weekend. Brilliant flick.

i admitt to only seeing one of those : BOTTLE ROCKET because im a wes anderson fan

Wow, this is a FANTASTIC list. I haven't seen a single one of these, but they all look really, really great. I can't wait to watch them (those that are available, anyway).
