I've removed worthy candidates whose films I haven't seen enough of, such as Fellini, Godard, Renoir, Lang, Ozu, Bergman, Truffaut, and Ray. So, it's not that they don't belong here, just that I can't know.

This should be good discussion fodder. Let's see, on first glance, I would probably drop Lynch and Lean and add Chaplin and Lang. I also have a soft spot for Robert Altman. Definitely like seeing Kurosawa in the number two slot.

Oops, I had Lang on the list but someone he didn't make it onto the Listology copy! :-)

BTW, current directors not on the list that have a good chance of making the list some day include Quentin Tarantino and Peter Jackson.

my fave on that list is Martin S, but other wise my list reads like this:

1.Wes Anderson
2.Quentin Tarantino (who didnt see that comming?)
3.Luc Besson
4.cohen Bros (Big Lebowski, is my fave)
5. Martin .S (wont attempt to spell)

Quentin's my favorite.

Kill Bill's not really my cup-o-tea (though still good), but I am REALLY excited about Tarantino doing a war combat 'men on a mission' movie. That sounds totally kickass coming from Quentin.

I, as always, make a case for Howard Hawks and Buster Keaton.

T'ho

:?)

And a very good case it is. Added Howard Hawks.

1) Billy Wilder
2) Orson Welles
3) Sergio Leone
4) Alfred Hitchcock
5) Martin Scorsese
6) Stanley Kubrick
7) Akira Kurosawa
8) Ang Lee
9) Hayao Miyazaki
10) Brian Singer

Wow, Ang Lee and Brian Singer? To each his own...
