10 Best Metal Albums

Tags:
  • 10. Sigh: Scorn Defeat
  • Year: 1993
  • Genre: Black metal
  • Why?: This Japanese metal band is pretty kick ass, and I must admit, the voice annoys me because I can't understand, but he's Japanese, so I'll just assume he's singing in his language. I don't listen to this album much unless I feel like going with my friends do scare the living daylights out of soccer moms.
  • Song(s) to check on this album: At My Funeral, A Victory of Dakini
  • 9. Dimmu Borgir: StormblĂ„st
  • Year: 2005
  • Genre: Black metal/Heavy metal
  • Why?: The only album I genuinely enjoy by these guys. I think it's because they are singing in Norwegian. Artists that sing in other languages give me a hard-on, what can I say.
  • Song(s) to check out on this album: Broderskapets Ring
  • 8. Slayer: Reign in Blood
  • Year: 1986
  • Genre: Thrash
  • Why?: Uhhh just the first song is THE BEST Metal song out there. Period. Don't bring it up with me, my mind is closed to the matter. THIS is what Metal is all about, bringing back the fucking Holocaust with orgasmic endings. Do I agree with the lyrics? God no, I'm dating a Jew, so don't bitch with me about that either.
  • Song(s) to check on this album: Angel of Death
  • 7. Helloween: Walls of Jericho
  • Year: 1986
  • Genre: Heavy
  • Why?: This band is pretty discreet, but I would call them very very bad ass. I like the singers voice, and the other band members actually know how to make you very angry in about 5 sec. without doing the exact same riffs every 10 sec.
  • Song(s) to check out on this album: Heavy Metal is the law
  • 6. Bathory: Jubileum Vol. II
  • Year: 1993
  • Genre: Trash/Black/Heavy/Viking
  • Why?: All of the songs on the album differ, and I enjoy that. The guy sounds like he's a demon spawn from hell and I can just see this guy going absolutely crazy in about 2 years. His voice sounds utterly destroyed, but I can understand what he's saying. That's all I ask.
  • Song(s) to check out on this album: Call from the grave
  • 5. Demolition Hammer: Epidemic of Violence
  • Year: 1992
  • Genre: Thrash/Death
  • Why?: It's great music and all, but the drummer is what really takes the show. I don't know how he has as much stamina as he has. In every song (literally) he is pounding at the drums. If I was him I would be DEAD after one song, if that. maybe the first 20 seconds. Phenomenal job, and these guys make true metal.
  • Song(s) to check out on this album: Varnivorous Obsession
  • 4. Judas Priest: Painkiller
  • Year: 1990
  • Genre: Heavy
  • Why?: Well, because the lead singer is gay. Well, he is, but that's not the full reason. It's Judas Priest, and the first song is just amazing. Fuck all others done by them, this is my fav. by them hands down.
  • Song(s) to check out on this album: Painkiller
  • 3. Ozzy Osbourne: The Ozzman Cometh
  • Year: 1997
  • Genre: Heavy
  • Why?: Because it's my favorite album by Ozzy. Yes, I like Black Sabbath, but I genuinely like Ozzy just as much (OH NOES!). Also, this song has Paranoid on it (live version), and I remember being 13 and running up a mountain (not a hill, a mountain) with a 50lb pack, then running back down and doing it again (with someone elses pack). It's a damn good song and YES I know Black Sabbath did it god do not bash me with that knowledge.
  • Song(s) to check out on this album: Over the mountain and Paranoid [Live]
  • 2. Blind Guardian: Nightfall In Middle Earth
  • Year: 1998
  • Genre: Epic/Heavy
  • Why?: This band was actually seriously considered to do the music for the movies for The Lord of the Rings, so that should say something about the epicness of this band. I always wonder what the singer sounds like when he's having sex.
  • Song(s) to check out from this album: Mirror mirror, When Sorrow Sang
  • 1. Blind Guardian: Somewhere Far Beyond
  • Year: 1992
  • Genre: Epic/Heavy/Viking
  • Why?: There is a reason this is number 1 on the list. It's because this is the best metal album ever created (that I know about) in my opinion. It's perfect, it's in the age of when metal was at it's best (look at the years here people... it's the 90's, just like most good electronic!). This album is just amazing. It never grows tiring, and it's perfect for the person who is interested in metal and wanting a gateway album. It's very hard, but it's also very easy to follow. If you don't D/l anything off this list, please just check out this album.
  • Song(s) to check out on this album: All of them...but the first one is a good opener, if you can't get past that then just stop listening to Metal all together.
Author Comments:

These are my favorite Metal Bands. Why do I listen to Metal and electronic you may ask, and my reply is basic. I was raised off of it, my brother is in a TRUE thrash metal band, and when I went to bed in his room (bunk bed) he would somehow fall asleep to heavy metal. So either I would have to not sleep or take it as a lullaby. I chose the latter. Metal is a very diverse and beautiful genre, even if the lyrics are a little...harsh. Anyway, if you have any recommendations, please share them, and if you D/l anything off this list, I would love to hear your comments. I don't know much about metal, but I know what's good. Comments appreciated : )!

NOTE: For my songs to check out it is solely for people who want to hear what I view as "the best" on the album. It's usually the opening song, but sometimes the best song isn't. It's just there for people who want a quick recap of what it sounds like without delving into the entire album. In other words, if they don't like the song, they won't like the album.

hi I was wondering whats your opinion on some of my favorite bands/musicians anyways my favorite are iron maiden, metallica, megadeth, avenged sevenfold, dragonforce, deep purple, yngwie malmsteen, lynrd skynrd, queen , and bob seger. anyways could you please just tell me what you think of each of them ty even if you dont reply.

Hey, Iron Maiden is alright, I used to be really into them but that was a childhood artist for me (personally). I love old Metallica, and Megadeth is pretty cool. Avenged Sevenfold has never really been my style, but if you like it that's cool. Dragonforce I dislike because they apparently used computers to do awesome guitar riffs, which is kinda lame in my honest opinion. Deep Purple is awesome, I don't know yngqie malmsteen. Lynrd Skynrd is always good, queen isn't my favorite but I do enjoy. Bob Seger is cool too.

I don't listen to metal much at all really, and this list is so outdated, I put albums on here that are compilations, so they shouldn't even be ON here. I've always been into the heavier stuff, such as Acid King - Busse Woods, and Kyuss - Sky Valley. Black Sabbath - Master of Reality is also a huge favorite of mine. I still love all the albums on this list, but the majority of my listening goes to the electronic genre. Rush is cool, but I don't personally own any albums by that artist.

oh i forgot to say i also really like rush

Hi I got Somewhere Far Beyond and I have to say it's the best power metal album I own. Also recently I've been into the band Demons & Wizards wich is a combination of members from the band Blind Guardian and Iced Earth.

Btw my favorite songs on the album Somewhere Far Beyond (remastered) are: Time What Is Time, Theatre Of Bain, The Bard's Song: In The Forest, Somewhere Far Beyond, Spread Your Wings and Trial By Fire and the reason I'm telling you this is because I'm wondering if my likeings are similar to yours.

oh btw spinmedown16 the only one song by dragonforce that has no computer editing or anything being added by a computer and no doing 3 second recordings bit by bit. It was all done in one take according to them but they said it wasn't done on their first take though is called strike of the ninja here is a video for it http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iNDjEdkc7e8 .

also have you ever heard of Vildhjarta? It's a djent metal band.

I have not! I will check them out and let you know what I think. Anything in particular that stands out by them I should look for?

I actually just got the new (well sort of new) Blind Guardian album At The Edge Of Time and it's their best I think and the albums I own by them are Somewhere Far Beyond, Nightfall In Middle-Earth and At The Edge Of Time with ranking at the edge at #1 somewhere far #2 and nightfall at #3 and for a Vildhjarta song I would listen to this - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QGx8PCl_Bjw the songs called Shiver and if your ok with listening to the sort of vocals found in death metal or metalcore and stuff then I think you might like it but one good thing it isnt't all growling/screaming. Personnally if they just got rid of most of the screaming and replaced it with more regular vocals also found in this song I'd like it a lot more though I sort of like the death metal scream a little bit sometimes as I am a fan of Dethklok and Children of Bodom.

If you like that then listen to these and vice versa (sort of what I mean is listen to these even if you didn't like it too). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CMX_BCLbtcw&feature=related - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=39B7lk_NhTw&feature=related - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0EAFxrZQnes&feature=related .

Also I'm wondering do you like death metal? If not then there is a kind which is probably more likable for you than regular death metal it's called melodic death metal, some of those bands are dethklok and children of bodom. some songs to check out by dethklok would be murmaider, thunderhorse, I tamper with the evidence at Odin's murder site, and bloodrocuted. also some by children of bodom would be blood drunk, if you want peace... prepare for war, and are you dead yet? .

do you know or like Megadeth or Metallica?
