I love Big Star but I was a little disappointed with I Am the Cosmos. Bell's voice, which is very high-pitched, gets a little grating after 10 songs or so. I just wish he could have sang a few in a lower key. The writing is top notch though.

Plus, there's about 3 or 4 Richard Thompson albums I'd choose before Amnesia. Did you catch him on Austin City Limits? He's one of the best.

I think the reputation of Bell's album is sealed with the title track and "You And Your Sister," two beautifully sad (or sadly beautiful, to borrow Westerberg's title) and brilliant pop songs. The rest of the album I can take or leave, but those two songs leave me breathless.

RT was actually traveling through this area recently (WA state) and I found out too late. D'oh! The man is amazing.
