I'm surprised you thought the plot of The Matrix was lacking. I thought it held together pretty well. I'm not sure the humans-as-batteries plot device holds up under scientific scrutiny, but I'm willing to let that slide for the sake of the story. What did you object to?

A few snippets: totally with you on Meet the Parents; not sure Prince of Thieves was particularly acclaimed in the first place; and you have Braveheart on there twice (perhaps you think it's twice as overrated? :-)

LOL, yeah, it was THAT overrated! No, I had started to hand type it when I just cut and pasted the list from my Excel file. I'll fix it.

Infomaniac, I have to ay i cant agree with much here. Maybe three of these movies are not masterpieces. The rest, well...are.

Oh, I know they are considered masterpieces. And I consider myself reasonably intelligent and artistic enough to be able to form a valid opinon of a movie. THAT is what I don't get: How can they be considered so great by so many, yet I still don't get it? Braveheart bored me to tears, dragged on and on (especially the dream scene and the entirely WAY excessive disembowelment scene), yet is is considered to be a masterpiece. Now Amadeus, THERE is a masterpiece. To ME, I can't find anything wrong with the movie at all. Yet it would BORE most people to tears. It's amazing how taste can vary so widely from person to person.

I'd be interested to hear which three you didn't think were masterpieces, because I can only find about three that I could concede: Braveheart, 2001, and Forrest Gump. I'll even allow American Beauty and Matrix to be in the 'condiderably acceptable' category, but certainly not masterpieces.

And the rest? From Dusk Til Dawn? Meet The Parents? Shadow of the Lame Asp Vampire? No way. Not that I couldn't concieve of SOMEONE liking them, by any means (Well "Shadow" might have been liked by DaFoe's mom, but that'd be the only person that could like that sorry movie). But masterpieces...blech.

I was adrenalized at the time I wrote that post. Granted, there are more than three that are not worthy of the masterpiece title. However most of the films are really good. Thats a better way to put it. I dont care much for The Talented Mr. Ripley, Edward Scissorhands, Robin Hood or Face/Off.

Hey, you still owe me Matrix specifics, if you're so inclined.

I was coming up with a reply, but it got too long, so I'm going to post it as an article. This'll probaly come up with other participants anyways, so it will make explaining it to others easier.

From Dusk Till Dawn and Robin Hood Prince of Thieves were overrated? By who - 13 year old boys? I'll admit, I overrated Prince of Thieves, because of an unfortunate adolescent Kevin Costner obsession (my darkest hour), but no one else really did. Also, I kind of dig both these movies. Especially since Dusk Till Dawn involves Salma Hayek and a snake. Come now!
Edward Scissorhands, though, totally overrated. Braveheart, it's grown on me, but the first 3 times I tried, I couldn't even sit through it. Traffic, yeah, definitely. It was like a really well-edited piece of chalk. Dry as hell, and the material is so rich and interesting. It was like the edited for tv version of the issues it dealt with. Meet the Parents, totally not funny. What were you doing Ben Stiller? Oh and Forrest Gump!?! Man, I didn't even see that there. Yeah, that blew.

Well, I'm running off at the mouth, it's too late at night.

I disagree with pretty much everything else on the list, but you definitely hit on some pet peeves of mine.

<< From Dusk Till Dawn and Robin Hood Prince of Thieves were overrated? By who - 13 year old boys? >>

LOL, now THAT quote deserves to be in the movies! If there was a movie about people arguing the merits of other movies (and I'm SURE there has got to already be one, but if there were going to be a MEMORABLE one), this would be perfect script material.
