  • Combine every disaster film you've seen in the past six years and you get The Guardian, this painfully stereotyped film about an old coast guard champ breaking this young hotshot. It's predictable right from the beginning and the end surprises absolutely no one. The acting is mediocre, though Kutcher proves he has indeed outgrown his slapstick comedy days (i.e. That 70's Show). If Touchstone Pictures thought they were going to have a hit with this they are severely mistaken. They'll be lucky if they manage to miss the Razzie awards next year, let alone win an Oscar.

  • Every now and then there comes a movie where, although you know it's not good and nobody likes it, it nevertheless becomes a guilty pleasure. This teen thriller is not one of them. The whole movie is painful. I found myself cringing through poorly delivered dialogue and messy plot twists and wishing I had never gone to all the trouble to get to this movie. This sad excuse for a film uses sets that the viewer has already seen if they ever took the time of day to watch Smallville on TV and the only recognizable actor is Laura Ramsey, who some may know from spring's She's the Man. Most movies this disastrous can be redeemed by saying 'at least it's entertaining'. Sadly, this can not be said for The Covenant. Do yourself a favour. Go see something else. My guess is that even Jackass is better than this.

My guess is that even Jackass is better than this.

That's because Jackass is better than everything.
