015: Movies I Consider To Be Overrated

- Cinema Paradiso~You would think for a movie to truly be excellent it would have to have some depth to it...not this one. Try having to write a thematic essay for your film studies class on this film. It's not easy. It's not a bad movie, it's just not a really good one either.
- The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring~I myself don't even understand what I have against this movie. The others are longer. But for some reason this seems to drag on forever. Maybe it's because it's mostly focused on Frodo, who pisses me off. But when people say this is the best film of the trilogy, I can't help but disagree. It's very good, yes, and true quality filmmaking, but the others are better.
- Saving Private Ryan~I know I'm going to get grief for this, but I honestly can't stand it. The character's are dull and I just can't see why anybody would watch a movie where the 'Private Ryan' everybody's risking their lives to save, turns out to be a selfish little boy who doesn't want their help. I mean, that's not to say it's completely awful. The special effects are good, the beach scene is everything it's cracked up to be and I really liked the sniper, but this movie just doesn't do it for me. I don't see what all the fuss is about. Even if it was just for the special effects, you could say that about almost any action/war film that comes out today. So instead of everybody hailing the greatest of this movie, maybe they should try watching Black Hawk Down and seeing what a truly great war film is all about
- Schindler's List~I really don't have anything against Spielberg, even if it may look like it. Munich and Catch Me If You Can were both fantastic. I just think he should stay away from the World War II genre. Now, this movie is really really good, I'll admit that. And I don't hate it at all. I was just disappointed. For years all I've heard is that this movie is the greatest movie of the 90's and Spielberg's best film ever and that it would make you cry like crazy. Well, I went out and bought it, and having watched it, I'm going to have to disagree. The filming of it is amazing and I can understand why people think it's good. But epic? The best ever? Not so much. I was not able to connect with the characters, or rather, the few you actually get the oppertunity to connect with. And this is what makes this film is lacking. A connection. Sure, it's horrible, but how does it effect us?
- To Kill A Mockingbird~It's boring. It's one-dimensional. And the book is way better. So why does everybody put it on their 'Top 100 Movies' lists? It's not worthy!!!

Please don't kill me for some of these, even though I know you'll want to. These are just my opinions. It's quite possible that maybe I just missed the point of the movie and that's why I didn't appreciate them to their full extent.
