jblack,
I have cruised a lot of the lists in the last day or two, but I think that I was reminded of Boxing Helena from YOUR list. I'm pretty sure I posted something on that list of yours. Yeah, what a great little-known film. I think the premise scares off about 90% of the population. It's a must see for anyone looking for a psychologically grizzly movie.
I don't understand why so few people "got" FIGHT CLUB. It was my favorite movie the year it came out, and had very similar themes to AMERICAN BEAUTY which was so embraced. Funny how people blamed their dislike on the violence, when Americans eat up much more lethal violence every day. How many people died in that movie? One? What a silly excuse for not liking a movie when really they probably just didn't want to face up to the mirror.
Wow, nail on the head. I agree. My best friend hated the movie. I remember the day! I saw Fight Club by myself, and I left thinking "Damn, what a statment!" I went home, called him, and he and another friend and I watched it the very next day. When we left the theater, he and his friend we're totally dissing the movie (and my taste). All because they couldn't see through the violence.
What I really like that you pointed out, something I never thought about, was that on one hand, they hated the violence, yet the public seems to LOVE violence. Great point, one I'll have to use when discussing this movie with my friends.
I have a similar list which also includes Boxing Helena. A bizarre yet mesmerizing film.
