This is an ongoing list of my favorite cover versions of songs. The format is Song Title - Performer of the Remake - Original Artist

"Money" was originally performed by Barrett Strong, and was one of the first, if not the first, singles released by a fledgling label by the name of Motown in the very late 50s.

That's right. I knew I wasn't remembering the original (The Kingsmen did also do a later version); I just couldn't recall the artist.

By the way, welcome back!

Shalom, y'all!

Have you heard the Jam's cover of David Watts by the Kinks? It's really good

Somehow I have missed Adam Again's cover of Ain't No Sunshine. What album is it on? It would be interesting to see what songs AA covered, whether on record or in concert, and what they can tell us about some of Gene's influences...

I'd love to see a list of Adam Again covers. Not having the chance to see them live, I only know the songs they actually recorded.

Ain't No Sunshine is off of the Ten Songs by Adam Again album, and seems to work perfectly for a man who's favorite album is a Stevie Wonder disc (if I remember Gene's list correctly).

Shalom, y'all!

New poster here, i've been stalking your boards, lbangs, so i finally decided to post on one of them.

I have been downloading Pearl Jam covering various artists recently. 2 of the best songs I have heard are, "Light my Fire", and "Dock of the Bay". Both are EXCELLENT covers, and i recommend you try and get ahold of them if you can.

Thanks!

pearl jam also does a great cover of a barely known 50's or 60's song - 'last kiss'. at fisrt, awfully creepy, then it haunts you...worth looking up.

hey, i recently heard a version of "wild horses" performed by a band called the Sundays. i thought it was pretty cool. have you heard it?

the most fascinating and entertaining cover songs are by all by Me First and the Gimmie Gimmies. they have two FL albums and guest spots on various compilations. one album, all classic songs - 'take me home', 'fire and rain', 'leaving on a jet plane', 'big shot' - in a 1 minute 40 or less. the second album, all show tunes, pales in comparison.

their whole repetoire is definitely worthy of mention here. no cover discussion is complete without them.

And the Moog Cookbook!

I know I keep harping on this particular collection, but on the David Bowie BBC Sessions collection, there are great, charging covers of both Waiting for the Man and White Light, White Heat. These may be among my favorite cover versions of all time.
