Fun poppy, accesible, good stuff that I'm surprised hasn't totally hit.

It's all about the right song at the right time. I offer the recent rise of Modest Mouse as the perfect example.
Excellent point. But in the case of Spoon, for example, they had a great pop song with "The Way We Get By". It was even featured on the O.C....I was really surprised when I never heard it played. It was quite the anthem for a generation.
True, but The O.C. hasn't exactly generated big time success for anyone. Sure, Rooney got some solid exposure, but I'm not really hearing them (or Death Cab for Cutie either) on any major radio at this point...yet. ;)
Yeah, this is true. They also played Stars, which is one of the more obscure bands I love. Honestly, I have to give them credit for using some great music.
However, the "Hallelujah" montage is old hat. Shrek-style.
I can't believe the Beastie Boys premiered their new single on the O.C.!
Yeah, I'm certainly surprised that The New Pornographers and The Shins haven't gotten more mainstream attention. Only these two will really be relevant this decade. I think The Thrills have enjoyed more 'popular' success than any of the others.
I dunno if those two will be the only important bands of the decade. Both Spoon and Broken Social Scene already have a huge critical following, and the pop chops to back it up. I would say that they're on equal footing with The New Pornographers, if not the Shins.
I agree with you on Damien Rice, a true talent! Damiens songs "Amie" and "Blowers Daughter" are beautiful! He's done a duet with one of my favorite artists, Tori Amos on her last album "The Beekeeper".
