0013: Beatles' Best Albums

  4. Revolver
  5. Rubber Soul

My Favourites:

1. Abbey Road
2. Let It Be (the title track does it for me)
3. The Beatles (The White Album)
4. Revolver
5. Rubber Soul

I've always considered 'Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Heart's Club Band' to be overated.

Sgt. Pepper's overrated? Well, perhaps, but I still think it's a great album. I didn't develop my appreciation for it until after I listened to it a good ten times or so.

Not that anyone asked me, but my personal top five would probably look like this:

1. The White Album
2. Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band
3. Rubber Soul
4. Revolver
5. Abbey Road

Really? Abbey Road at Number 5? To tell the truth, my #1 and #2 are very close. But, Abbey Road is ultimately the more sturdy and beautiful (two odd words to put together) of the two. As for Rubber Soul and Revolver, I love the songs on both, but the albums don't have the cohesiveness of my top three.

If you'd like to see my reasons for not loving Abbey Road as much as you, see my review of it here.

And to be honest, I considered putting Magical Mystery Tour at #5, but I gotta love "Maxwell's Silver Hammer."

Mmm, you and I seem to have opposing views on albums. I would be the guy buying the ten-track album because of the flow. I guess that also explains my love for "Exile on Main Street". Oh, and "I Want You" may be one of the sexiest songs ever written. I don't love it, but damn if it doesn't push a few buttons.

Well I love Exile on Main Street. More than Abbey Road. So maybe it's not just that part of what I said. Ironically, since I wrote that review, I've gotten into the habit of skipping most bonus tracks at the end of albums. But I maintain that if you offer me a 12-dollar album with ten tracks and a 12-dollar album album with those ten, plus six bonus tracks, I'd buy the latter.

And I still think "I Want You" is awful.

Well, to each his own, I suppose.
