It is a crying shame they were deleted, because I Love You But I Have Chosen Darkness is one of the best band names I have heard in ages...

For me, this year has been something of a slow starter. I've heard many albums I like (such as the Cat Power, Belle and Sebastian, and Destroyer albums), but only one I really like (the new Rosanne Cash) and none I absolutely love...

Summertime, no doubt...

Shalom, y'all!

L. Bangs

ILYBIHCD is also an awesome acronym.

When it's officially released (they've been selling them at shows), I definitely rcommend checking out the new Fiery Furnaces.

I'd also advise a listen to Tapes 'n Tapes' album.

I also enjoy your current top 4. I Love You But I Have Chosen Darkness is a great band name.

Many have been complaining about how this year has sucked for music...but if you like some indie pop and bizzaro experimental rock, then there has been a treasure trove so far.

I am constantly fluxuating between my top 4 taking the top spot. However, since Islands has been there for a while, I'll continue with that.

When I redesigned my list formats, I decided to do away with the higher number of albums, simply because I thought the rankings lost their meanings the more I included. However, I think my top twenty would, for the most part, all be worth checking out.

Good choices on your original list. I'm currently hooked on J. Dilla "Donuts".

Which original list? I updated recently, but I've updated a few times.

I dropped Bruce's album, The Sunset Rubdown's album, and The Lovely Feathers in the past month. Bruce's album was so surprising on first listen, that it gained a few extra points, but repeated listens have proven less rewarding. The Sunset Rubdown is just about #11 (tied w/ Band of Horses), and it pains me not to include them. The Lovely Feathers have dropped signifigantly because while I enjoy the album, it is grating on repeated listens, and I can't help but feel that they're jumping a bandwagon that has moved on.

(As usual) Great list. Lots of my personal faves on here, specifically Islands, Ghostface, Decemberists, TV on the Radio, Belle and Sebastian and numorous other honorable choices. However, I really can't believe you dislike Boys and Girls in America so much. Personally, it moved itself right up to the top of my Hold Steady albums (and my list of albums from this year) and I wasn't all too suprised it wasn't your fave, but nowhere on the top 50? Really? And, perhaps I just haven't given it enough listens (1?) but I couldn't get into the Boris album the first time around. Might have to give that a couple more shots. Anyway, another year, another good list. Thanks.

You see, Boys and Girls in America was, to me, the biggest dissapointment of the year. Part of what I loved about the Hold Steady was how unforced the lyrics were, and the thrown-together feel of the music. The new album was very technically accomplished, but after a few listens, I was left cold. It kills me how much I have grown to hate the album, considering that Seperation Sunday and Almost Killed Me are two of my favorite albums of any decade.
