TOP 100 ALBUMS - 80-71

  • 80) Travis-The Man Who: This album perfectly showcases Fran Healy's songwriting talents. One of the most refreshing albums of the 1990's with a couple of fillers thrown in. Does anyone else think that the bass lines are all fairly similar?
  • Best Songs: Writing To Reach You, Driftwood, Why Does It Always Rain On Me.
  • 79) Elton John-Goodbye Yellow Brick Road: Definitely Elton's most satisfying album helped by the title track, the dedication to Marilyn Monroe Candle In The Wind, Sweet Painted Lady and Saturday Nights Alright For Fighting. Not sure about one or two of the song titles though. Best Songs: Candle In The Wind, Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, Saturday Night's Alright For Fighting.
  • 78) The Kinks- Kinks Are The Village Green Preservation Society: Without a single on this album, I was a little weary of this one at first. The Kinks were always more of a singles band. I was therefore very pleasently surprised when I gave it a spin. Why the title track was not released as a single is anyones guess. All the songs on this are, in fact, very strong. Just shows what a great songwriter Ray Davies was. Highly reccomended for those collectors with just a Kinks Kompilation! Best Songs: The Village Green Preservation Society, Picture Book, Last Of The Steam-Powered Trains.
Author Comments:

This is my top 100 albums of all time. Simple rules - no bootlegs, live albums or compilations. Only officialy released studio albums get in.
The Led Zep/Dylan maniac I am, there are going to be some obvious choices, but with the odd surprise thrown in here or there, I hope this list will keep you reasonably entertained. I have included comments about each album, aswell as my favourite three tracks from each album. This was a tremendously difficult task, and there were many albums I love which didn't quite make it. Enjoy!(Idea from L.Bangs).
