Absinthe

I finally tried the Absinthe, sans movies. I put together an Absinthe kit. I used an old 2 bottle porta-bar, with the absinthe, glass shaker of iced water, and 2 absinthe spoons inside. Outside I attached 2 green fairies I fashioned out of plastic doll cutouts and feathers. With it, I also carried a hand bag with 3 glasses and sugar cubes. I brought it to bar owner's birthday party. A friend and I got her attention, and we all dissapeared to the basement of the bar, by outside staircase. It was all very clandestine, much like smoking underneath your parents deck. Remember it is illegal to import Absinthe in the US or to sell it. I figured it had to be illegal to openly drink the substance in a public house.

I had placed green glowsticks behind the bottle so when I opened the case, the bottle glowed. I unwrapped the glasses, each of which was sealed with either "Dream" or "Journey". I then ritualized the pouring process.

I placed the special slotted spoons on the glasses, and a sugar cube on top. I shook the iced water in the shaker and dripped it over the sugar to dissolve. We then stirred the mixture until it turned a milky green. a louche. My friend and I slammed the louche, but Mia sipped hers like a lady.

Her partner came down looking for her, almost in a panic. All anyone could tell her was "She left with Bob & Kevin". We are two of the people she trusts most, so she was no longer super concerned, but she has to wonder where we were. She found us, just as Bob and I were having our second serving. She wanted to try it, but said "no sugar no water". She's a shot drinker. I forced her to try it the classic way. No one should be that stubborn. Although we do stubbornly drink too much of the "Master of the Hunt". I consider that (Jaeger) to be modern day Absinthe. At least as far a mistique and reputation and practice go.

I have one more person that wants to try my Absinthe. I'll have that at home, and make a cd capturing absinthe quotes from BS's Dracula and Moulin Rouge. Maybe have him watch one of the above movies. Why all this bother?

I think my fascination ith Absinthe dates bake to my being enthralled with the "Old Absinthe House" in the French Quarter. Even though one of the 2 with the name was a frozen daquiri bar last time I visited. New Orleans is my favorite city to unwind. But that is for another article. Which reminds me this is simply a reply to my own movie list. Do not be surprised if this ends up starting a new category for me.

whoops it did - see its "Passions"

Aleister Crowley, Van Gogh, Degas, Picasso, and Mark Twain, as well as Marilyn Manson and Johnney Depp were all in to absinthe.....
