Oh I'm smoking sir! I like it very much indeed! Kind of historical yet modern, nice squigglies too! I've always been a kind of #FFFACD type guy myself.
:?` <---pondering the amount of exclamation marks used in post
It's true, and it would squish the center and lop-side the page. Unless you put it as a watermark on top of everything, but then you'd have to unify the image and blah blah blah. Who wants to do that much work.
I gotta design a mascot for listology in my time off. hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.
You could always stick "THE LISTOLOGY" between the two green tabs (in the white area.) It wouldn't take up any used space and would free up each tab for something else. Of course whatever you put on the tabs would have to look like something someone would write on a folder tab... maybe... OK, that's enough from me.
Lukeprog has been trying to get me to make more drastic changes, but I'm not willing/able to make that leap presently. He's grudgingly willing to settle for new buttons for now, hence this poll. :-)
Remember that stylesheet problem you had a couple days ago? Well, that happened because I was moving more of the site formatting into CSS rather than inline HTML. In theory this would have allowed me to provide an alternate stylesheet that you could have picked via the stylesheet switcher built into Firefox. I couldn't get Firefox to recognize it though, so I'm thinking perhaps I need a DOCTYPE. Even then, I'm going to have to do some cookie magic or something so the alternate stylesheet is persistent. Slowly but surely though...
And yes, I was mostly doing this with you in mind. :-) I had hoped to deploy it quickly, but with the snags it might be awhile.
2 extra cents: I always thought the title, "the LISTOLOGY" should match the font next to the buttons and the folder flap on the right side be the same size as the left, but nevermind.
How did you decide upon the ying-yang as the icon for the 'clone' button? I would've figured a more natural icon would be the one you actually used for print, and yet, the ying-yang is a cool idea because the two halves are identical but slightly different, and it somehow evokes the idea of cloning without being tied to that term anywhere else I can think of. Very clever.
Some proportion of inspiration and perspiration, although I'm not sure how much of each. I was casting about for something appropriate for awhile, and then noticed that ImageStyler had one half of a Yin/Yang as a canned shape, and had one of those "ah ha!" moments.
I actually hate allmusic's redesign. Advanced search is nice, but it's now really slow, I don't like navigating 6 different tabs to get the info I once had on one page. The auto-expanding results for album lists or searches don't work in Opera, and make it almost impossible to click links there.
The GO button was meant to be spliced out and replace the 'go' button on the search box. It's scaled so you can cut the button and inset out at 22x22, which is what size your go.gif file is now.
I don't think anyone will vote for a bar that has a useless, yellow GO button next to the regular main navigational buttons.
Hehe, yeah. That's the power of Photoshop. If you think that looks neato, be sure to check out my full design concept for an alternate interface. That sucker has more than 100 finely-tuned layers, but only took about 5 hours of work. Gotta love Photoshop. Don't know why Jim is still messing around with this 'ImageStyle' nonsense :-)
And the Listology. What's with the "the"? Just wondering.
:?)
There, put that in your pipe and smoke it. I'm waffling on the text color though.
(you might have to do a SHIFT+REFRESH to see it)

lol i liked ''The'' i thought it was kind of funny, made it sound very important..''THE Listology'' lol but new one is good also
kinda like
THE LISTOLOGY!
sorry J for the size, if you wanna edit feel free. A lot of coding junk for a post.
T'ho

Larger "all caps" would look better, but you'd have to enlarge the green tab. Perhaps too much trouble depending on how it was originally designed.

Good idea, but think about it, yellow...big.
That's it for me too. There's flogging a dead horse and there's...

I thought Winston was the mascot. :-)
Oh, so everyone's just perloined my fantastically cute dog. Well...I can't blame you. In fact...
T'ho

THE LISTOLOGY!! lol i copy Mr.Stook :)
Well, that's what the site was called originally. Seems silly now that everybody just refers to it as "Listology".
I was kinda thinkin' the same thing, although the listology has a aura of mystery about it. :?)
T'ho

I don't understand the benefit of the new buttons over the old. Now let me read every else's comments.
There is no functional difference; it's purely an aesthetic question.
I know. But they look darn near identical to me. I was expecting see something revolutionary.
Lukeprog has been trying to get me to make more drastic changes, but I'm not willing/able to make that leap presently. He's grudgingly willing to settle for new buttons for now, hence this poll. :-)
If you're going drastic, I'd still say change the color scheme ;) (Still not a yellow fan)
ditto on the yellow. dark yellow anyway.

I prefer the old font and smaller check marks.

I agree. I like Jim's headeings, but I really dig lukeprog's nifty Go button. So, I voted to keep the current headers, but I'd like the new Go icon.
I voted for the existing buttons, but just realized I like lukeprog's go button better (though still like the existing other buttons)
I've always been curious, Jim:

Gotta love those 'aha!' moments...
I'm not sure if I should vote. I'll hold off for now.
Lukeprog's is sleek, kinda like a ferarri.
Jim's is boxy and curvy kinda like an Avalanche.
Sorry Luke, I prefer the old one, but is there a possibility Jim could get some Macromedia flashfunk going like on Allmusic.

I agree. the new allmusic is a pain in the ass.
And I add a vote AGAINST flash. I actually have all flash blocked in firefox.
I've been misunderstood, not the site, the toolbar with the weird spinny thing that goes to different sub-menus.

Hehe, sometimes I feel like I'm chasing the menu item I want in circles, and it's always escaping me :-)
Think Luke Skywalker with the little laser ball. You have to clear your mind and use the force...of a cordless mouse. Hehe.
T'ho

I'm pretty sure Jim hates Flash. And Javascript, BTW.
Just Javascript. My feelings for Flash are more complicated.
Oh, would you care to share them here?
Nah, I've already shared them here. :-)
oh right, that's where it was.
Woooooooooaaaaaahhhhhh!!!!

I assumed as much, and thus assumed everyone else would too. Just in case, I've added a note.
Perhaps it would be better to ask them to compare with this image.
Criminy, is it possible you're more compulsive than I? Another note has been added.
Oh, I think my continual domination of the 'recent updates' page has already proved that...
And, I wanted to give my look a fair chance.
did you make that on your pc luke?? its very impressive

Okay, that I like better. Good un luke. Change to latter Jim, it's funky.
T'ho
:?)
Thanks! Though, I think we're in quite a minority, here. The needs of the many outweigh the needs to the few...
So true, but I could contact netflix and hold Jim's copy of "Duel" hostage. I think that would change his mind...pretty quick. :?)
