Coffee Cup Logo Preference

I'm thinking I'll try selling some Listology paraphenalia at CafePress.com, but I need artwork to include on the products. I'm a good programmer, but only a only a mediocre artist at best. I thought I'd get feedback on the two sample designs above, and open the topic up to discussion. Feel free to tell me what stuff you'd like to buy, share logo ideas, slogans, etc. Have fun with it. I don't expect to make my nut selling merchandise, but it'll be an interesting experiment if nothing else. I'm also going to start taking donations again, probably via the Amazon Honor System, because I trust them more than PayPal (although their fees are higher).

I think both are good, but I think the top one looks too formal. Listology is a more fun, creative place, and that's the impression I get from the second one. But I think it would look better if you changed the font color for the "LISTOLOGY.COM" at the bottom from gray to the dark green color from the banner at the top. That would be pretty cool.
:-) I had the same thought. I actually tried it that way first, and it didn't look as good (IMO). The green was too dark in that context.
I prefer the top red x to the bottom red x. ;D
Hah! Guess I got a little overzealous in my winter code cleanup. I'm going to archive this poll, since I can't find those graphics anymore.
I couple of things depend on the starting point. Is the cost of a white cup the same as a pastel, grey, or tan colored cup? Is using only one print color cheaper than using two? Do you want the logo to represent anything other than the website name? Perhaps something to catch the eye of the passerby and make them question, "What the hell is that all about?" Just kidding, sorta ; )
Perhaps a square cluster of smaller logos representing...
1. a movie camera or film strip,
2. a record player, record or old radio,
3. an open book or stack of books,
4. a small TV set or TV guide
All could be found in clipart and be printed in one color (black?), perhaps with your "Big Yellow Checkmark" as the center. It's just one suggestion. Although I do have some distant experience in layout and design, I have no idea on the costs or methods used these days.
That's excellent feedback Stumpy, thanks! I'm constrained by what CafePress will do. For example, I think their mugs are all white (here's their product list). Everything is color, so there's no price difference from one color to many. Their base prices are already a bit high ($11 for a mug, unless I sell a bunch) so I'd have to charge more than that to make any money. So you'd have to want a memento for your donation rather than just doing an Amazon Honor System payment (the other option I'll be offering).
I do like the idea of the 4 "media" icons, so I'll look around for those and see if they can be incorporated somehow. Perhaps I'll post another poll after the next draft.
Good gravy, 24 hours and only two votes. This does not bode well for selling many coffee cups!
I think they're both really good!
:-) Thanks!
Wouldn't you know it, I get all fancy with images in the poll and the dang thing breaks. I lost one vote. Could I trouble whoever you were to come back and vote again? Should be fixed now.
I just thought I'd post a starter post for those of you that keep up with what's new via the "Recent Posts" page. I could use some votes and thoughts on this here poll, if you have a moment.
